Last night my boyfriend and I got into a really big argument...and i tried walking away but as i did he grabbed my arm and hit me. I grabbed the nearest book I can find and hit him back on the head. What should I do? this is the first time he ever hit me, should I just let it slide?

No i think you should leave him and if he tries to hit you again you should call the cops on him and have him arrested. You should not let this slide because things will just get worse and he will become more violent towards you.

NO! You definitely shouldn't let it slide. I have had an abusive father all of my life. Each time he would hit me, he'd promise he wouldn't do it again and he did. If your boyfriend hit you once, I promise you he will do it again. Get out now while you can. Get another adult involved if the problem persists. I made a mistake staying, but I did it to make sure nothing happened to my baby sister. Believe me, several bruises and injuries later, we both got out. Abuse is nothing to take lightly. Trust me, I've been there.

Has he hit you before? Are you absolutely sure that this is the first violent encounter? If he has hit you before, or threatened physical violence, dump him pronto. Blokes who hit women are scumbags. ( I'm a bloke, 48 inch chest, weightlifter, ex amateur wrestler, 50 years old and extremely fit). I am of mixed Irish and Scots blood, and I thus have a very fiery temper, but I've never hit a woman in my life.

If he has not hit you before, give him this one chance, and tell him that hitting is unacceptable. But never hit him - the contract has to be equal ,on both sides. Women can hit, and hit hard. I work in the Criminal Justice system, and have been hit, to the point of bruising, by women. I dont have to hit them in return, however, we are trained in restraining techniques that will put someone down without blows being inflicted.

Be vaery loving, and extremely careful.

Break up with him. There is no excuse for a man to be hitting a woman, nothing. This means he has a problem controlling his temper. If he is hitting a girlfriend now, what do you think he will do when he gets married? He will be an abuser if he doesn't get some help now. Leave him and be safe. I hope this helps.

Get the hell outta there! If he cared...he would not put hands on you regardless of what the circumstances are. He hit you once he will do it again. But only thing next time it will be easier.. IF you let him slide this time you WILL let him slid the next time after that. I wouldn't want to be hit by someone who was suppose to make me feel safe and secure.

you CANNOT let it slide.... a man should NEVER ever hit a woman... i am not saying break up with him if he loves you and you love him then you can try to work it out... as long as you can be sure that you will be safe.. never ever put yourself in a position where you are not safe.. and if he starts to make you feel like you deserved it or tries to justify what he did... then you just need to leave... no questions asked.. there is nothing you could do to deserve it and there is NOTHING that justifies it... if he says anything like that u need to leave him because he will never change... good luck and please be careful.. take it from someone who has been there and if u need to talk about it im me... sistergurly@yahoo.com im here for ya...

NO do not let that one hit slide. Cause if he will do it once he will do it again. If he loves you or likes you a lot he would have never hit you. When you tell him you are going to leave him(which you will do hopefully) he will be like I'm sorry baby I didn't mean it, I will never do it again, just don't leave me. It won't mean a d*m thing when you get back together. So PLEASE leave while it's not to bad. PLEASE take my advice.

Don't stay in a relationship with a man who is willing to place his hands on you. I learned the hard way that they don't change once they start. My ex said sorry a hundred times, and a hundred times I believed him... It wasn't untill our baby girl was standing there watching him try to choke me that I realized that it needed to end if I made it through that moment. I took my baby and left, and now at 7 she still has a mommy. I took a while to adjust to not being controlled. I now feel safe and happy and confident. I would never allow another man in my life to lay a finger on me.

Tell him if he ever hit you again you will leave. Please stick to your word. Once he starts hitting you and getting away with it he will NEVER stop. If he loved you he wouldn't hit you. Forgive him this time. Because sometimes things just get out of hand. But don't let it happen again.
