Ask your dentist for the special floss threaders that go between your teeth, or take a walk to the local pharmacy and ask to see the box of blue floss threaders. Brushing your teeth with a whitening toothpaste would help; not drinking tea, or coffee, or colas; making sure you brush your teeth for as long as it takes you to sing a song like "Yankee Doodle Dandy" might help. When the dentist adjusts your braces, the action pulls on your teeth to align them closer to where they need to be; the process is painful, not life-threatening, so you should not rely on pain killers for such a standard adjustment. The pain will pass, and remember, you are one of thousands that experience this pain from adjustment. The cleaning of teeth, the braces are for the purpose of improving your bite, which will make your teeth last longer. We hear your pain, but you are lucky to be able to have braces, as they are costly.

Hopefully my answer to your question will help you. I have braces right now and i find it a pain to floss. Proper flossing is every bit as important as proper brushing, and a habit you'll want to continue even when the braces are off. Flossing removes plaque between teeth and beneath the gum line that brushing cannot.

Tear off a piece of floss about 16 inches long. You will soon learn the best length to use.
Stick the floss through the floss threader and place the threader between the gums and arch-wire.
Pull the floss half-way through and lay the threader aside.
Holding the floss on either end, gently "work" it up and down the sides of the teeth and under the gum line.

Repeat the procedure between each tooth, and rinse thoroughly. Flossing while wearing braces is extremely important. A demonstration from the doctor or staff member will clarify which technique is best for you.

In the presence of inflammation, you may experience some discomfort and bleeding. This will go away with continued good oral hygiene.

Remember------- Healthy gums will not bleed.

I also recommend using Phos Flur which is a mouth wash you can ask about at your own orthodontist or you can get at your local store such as Wal*mart, CVS, Brooks, or shopping store. They are usually priced at around 13.00 but they help a lot!!
Good Luck!
I hope this helped!!

Flossing With Braces Made Easy

Flossing is a pain. Try buying a waterpik. It works as well as flossing and is less work. As for fluoride you can rinse with Act or another fluoride rinse right before going to bed. For the pain pills should help a little, pain shouldn't last long anyway.

first of all, just deal with the pain, it happens to everyone.
second, if you dont want to floss, try using a proxibrush - not as good as flossing, but it'll get the job done quicker

PS. a proxibrush is a small brush that looks a a small amount of pipe cleaner on a handle

I have worn braces and worked for an Orthodontist for several years. Braces will hurt for a few days after an adjustment and then will ease up. Just be prepared to eat soft foods after an adjustment or after first getting them, they will also hurt when you first start wearing rubber bands. Adults tend to hurt sometimes more than younger patients. Seek the advice of your orthodontist as to what he would recommends you take for pain, if indeed something is needed.

Just keep flossing dude. If you don't your gums will start to grow over your teeth and they'll have to be cut. Would you rather that. I have to floss my braces too I've had mine for a year and a half and I've got three more years to go. As for pain my teeth are killing me right now just eat soft foods. The pain just means yuor teeth are shifting

There is this floss thats called super floss, it has one stiff end, then a really spongy thread, that then narrows into regular floss, I like it a lot! I get my brackets and then my gums, and it comes in original and mint! :) If you really just dont want to floss period, then maybe you should consider a water jet, it pretty cool to.
