Someone very close to me has a brain tumor...unfortunately he does not have insurance. Because of that his doctor wants him to pay up front which is not possible all the time. And because of that he is not getting the care that he needs. Does anyone know any phone numbers or websites that I could look into about any possible financial help for this issue? Any advice is very much appreciated...Thank you!

Hill-Burton Free Health Care , this is a federal program administered by the Department of Health and Human Services, in which certain medical facilities, hospital and nursing homes are required to provide low-income persons with free or low-cost care. Eligibility standards may vary between facilities, but are generally based on income and family size, with some facilities accepting incomes up to three times the poverty level. These facilities may not discriminate against Medicare or Medicaid patients. Medicare deductions and insurance copayments are not covered. They will provide a free listing of participating facilities in the caller's state. The phone number is: (800) 638-0742.

American Cancer Society provides one time financial aid for medications up to $100. Local chapters also provide varying levels of financial assistance. Call the national office and asked to be put in touch with your local chapter. The phone number is: (800) ACS-2345.

Cancer Care, Inc. has financial assistance programs for specific locations in the US. Their comprehensive website has state listings of financial assitance programs. For best results, search for all cancers, not just brain tumors.

Cancer Fund of America does not provide direct financial assistance however, they do ship items such as diapers, bedpans, dippers, nutritional supplements, and assorted hygiene kits, free of charge. They also provide holiday baskets.

National Association for the Terminally Ill gives financial assistance to children and families of those suffering from a terminal illness whose life expectancy is two (2) years or less. They help with day-to-day living expenses such as: rent or mortgage, groceries, electric, car payments, insurance payments, etc. They evaluate the need of each family on a case-by-case basis. The phone number is: (888) 847-0390.

Well, I found several sites that may be promising. I'm giving them to you and if you can't find anything to help in these then type in "financial help with brain tumor surgery" into a search engine. I used Mywebsearch. I hope it helps. Best of luck to you and your friend or family member. God bless.

Has he looked into his state programs? Medicaid, Gold Card (free clinics?)

The other options are asking his doctor if there are any studies he can do for free meds.

What state does your friend reside in?

Let me know!
