we were living together and we have just split up two days ago we have both decided to be friends like good friends as we were friends b4 we had a relationship. the reason why we split was because he mother was not happy that we were having a mixed relationship through a bad experience of her own. of course my bf went to talk to my parents because of his african values and my mum did ask him cant he follow his heart and he said his family is important and that is all he has got. obviously i realised that he did love me and that he was making the best decision while we were both young and i think i would have mayb did the same if my circumstances were different but its seems i had a more stronger character than him.. but who knows wot the future holds but i i think it will be difficult if and when someone else comes along but we have both agreed not matter wot the friendship will never die out.

caroline, firstly i am so sorry you and ure bf have split, it is the hardest thing to go through i have had the same experience in a way i was 17 when i met G and we were madly in love spent 6 years with him but it wasnt meant to be his mother didnt agree with our relationship because we were so young and needed to see more of the world. but ten years on and i am happily married to someone else and i have two wonderfull kids who i love and adore. i wouldnt change things for the world. everything happens for a reson but if you relly love him and visa vera things will work out for the best, dont ever let anyone dictate to you how you should feel. myself and G are still the best of friens and although he has traveled we still keep in touch by email so that proves that a frienship does last even when there has been a break up like this. caroline i wish you the best of luck with all my heart i hope that things work out for you and that you will be happy no matter what. keep in touch, emma.

You waited 4 and half years to break up because you guys were in a mixed relationship. Four years is a long time to spend making a decision like that. I think there is a little more going on then you are willing to share. That just doesn't make sense. You've stuck out 4 years together......................something doesn't add up.

Understand the risk factors like your age and maturity at marriage can determine how successful it will be, the anatomy of an affair and what you can do after infidelity. Understand the success factors like the personal and psychological circumstances that will influence your marriage, what are the tools and approaches available to you in dealing with conflict, and numerous other relevant data. I think what he did was some bullshyt. Ok maybe his family does mean a lot to him...but I am assuming this is a grown man. His mother can't dictate his life forever. I don't think I would be able to be his friend, but to each their own. Four years? And he leaves because his mom doesn't want him to be in a mixed relationship? Where was she the last four years? Where was she in the beginning? Where was she when you two were staying together? I smell a rat.

maybe once his parents can see that your friendship is strong and your feelings for each other havent gone, they will be able to accept that this mixed relationship does work, and wont give either of you a bad experience. maybe they just need reassurance that you two are more than 'just skin deep' if you know what i mean. good luck, and i hope it all works out for you.

It's a difficult time for you...I don't really understand his motives but that's not important. The important thing is that you try and figure out what your new life brings you! Take care!

If he loves you he should be able to let his family know that you're the right person for him. Race should not play a factor in who you love. I am sorry I hope you find the right person for you.
