A gift certificate to some place like K-mart or Walmart. he can buy what ever baby product he does not have yet, or buy something for the wife, it gives him the choice.
There are cute t-shirts and items everywhere that say, New Dad, or if you know it is a boy, matching big guy, little guy shirts are cute.
Put together a new dad kit: a couple cigars, some of those suckers that say new dad for him to hand out, some ear plugs (or a couple cotton balls labeled ear plugs), a pacifier, a beer(one of those big cans you can get at the grocery would do), some chips, some room deoderizer, a travel pack size of Tylenol, you get the picture. Just make sure he has a sense of humor! You could put a real gift in with the jokes, if you want.
Try your local party supply store, they might have something to buy or copy. Wrap the dad kit up in a box, use a baby blanket as the wrapping paper, or buy an inexpensive baby tote and attatch a note that says it's Dad's .
Some gift certificates for pizza or fast food for when the baby comes.
Hope this helps.
Oops, I just read he doesn't drink, substitute some soda.

You could always do something for the new parents, like maybe buy a gift certificate to a reasonably priced restaurant. That way, when things get hectic, and they are tired from being up at nights, etc, they can go to dinner or have take out.

If you want to get something for him then maybe a gift certificate to a restaurant so he and his wife can get out alone one night after having the baby.
If you want to get something they can use for the baby diapers are a great gift, they aren't very expensive to buy one pack but for the parents the are a large expense and greatly appreciated.

What a nice thought. I never think to give the expectant dad something...

How about a nice frame for his baby's picture?

I'd say get a gift card. But you might want to see if he or his significant other is registered somewhere.

If you don't want any of those suggestions, get like baby clothes or diapers. Everybody needs diapers.

Baby stuffs will be a great idea. Baby bottles, baby shirts, cute stuffs for the baby, or for the baby's bed decoration. Or a photo frame so he can put his baby's photo.

Ear plugs, and a copy of what to expect when you're expecting so he can be sympathetic and informed for his wife.
