To soften brown sugar that has hardened, place in oven-proof container and warm in 250F degree oven until sofr OR place in microwave container and heat on high, checking every 30 seconds. Measure desired amount. As sugar cools it will harden again.

after opening the box of brown sugar, place the plastic package of sugar in a jar with a slice of apple in the jar. ( A slice of bread will work too)

The moisture of the apple keeps the sugar from hardening. It will also work if you put it into a large zip-lock bag.

Keep brown sugar soft and useable by placing a piece of bread in your container with brown sugar. Another method is to place a slice of apple in hardened brown sugar to soften it up quickly.

A slice of soft bread placed in the package of hardened brown sugar will soften it again in a couple of hours.

Store it in a zip lock bag with a slice of bread.
I don't know a fast way from experience b/c my grandma always used bread so I did too.
Microwave might work, but make sure not to do it for too long or you will have syrup.

Try microwaving for JUST a few seconds. If you put it in for too long though you will melt it. Also, you can try putting in a baggie and kneading with your hands.

Put a slice of apple in it.
The microwave will destroy its original properties, don't do that.
I learned this from my mother that learned from hers and so on.
It works!
