I had a very strong notion that major problem of India lies in over population.
But a long mentoring from my friend shattered my conviction. The problem may lie with over population but the main cause is the ATTITUDE. The Attitude of many of Indians is selfish, self centered, unpatriotic, currupt, oppurtunistic.
Democracy has become a laughing stock. India can survive and become world's NUMERO UNO country, if and only if illeteracy is erradicated.Every citizen of India must atleast be a metriculate.
then only India can get rid of some of the existing lousy, criminal minded , corrupt and unpatriotic politicians.
compulsory basic education changes Attitude which in turn takes the country into right path.

I hate to say it, but it's sounding like India is becoming like the U.S.
Some of us only care about ourselves (in one way or another), and we would do well to get rid of our corrupt leaders, too.
I am glad to see, however, that this problem is an issue of mankind, and not just Americans. Maybe someday we'll be able to fix it on a global scale.

There is corruption wherever there are people,so there's no solid foundation upon which to build any type of patriotism that is real and meaningful. I'm wondering whether or not the people there have any reason to be patriotic? Knowing all the officials take bribes( I've read of this) at the expense of the poor who couldn't afford to bribe somone anyway, has got to be detrimental to everyone's attitudes and convictions. It's not confined to India though- think Enron and abscam for just 2 examples of why many americans are also disillusioned with the current status quo.

I think that is a nice idea - but even in the United States where we have compulsory basic education - that is no guarentee for strong nationalistic feeling among the population. Sometimes it takes an awful national crisis to create such a stitutation. The US has it after the Japanese attack on the US Naval Base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and we had it again more recently after the terrorist attacks back on 9/11/2001 in NYC and Washington, DC. Usually attempts to socially engineer people to think a certain way backfire. You need something that grabs people emotions - not there brains. Patriotism is an emotional feeling.

I do not know about attitudes there or the smaller government offices that are through out India. What I do know is the president they have now is great. He is a very open man who cares about his country I wish him all the best. I do not think the mindset of the population is a selfish one just different. Education is something that all countries can use more of,Hope that helps

Face it, man. We're heading elsewhere. Patriotism is out, TG. Patriotism has caused too many wars and too much suffering.

Sounds good as an idea, but some people will still be who they are no matter how much education they have...

aren't the Indians and Patriots in to different leagues?
I'm not sure if they are even playing the same sports at that.
