A lot of them act like rock music is the root of all evil. Give me a break! Should we blame church music for creating child molesters? I mean, a lot of priests have been accused and charged with molesting.. it must be the organ music.

I thought Jesus loved everyone. No matter what music they liked.

Christians believe in Jesus, Catholics believe in Jesus. Same thing.

Catholics are Christians. Why do people keep telling me that. I just said it above.

I'm a former Catholic.

My favorite was the fundie pamphlet that insisted the 4:4 beat was proven to cause people to fornicate. When I was a child I thought by now the United States would have a colony on Mars. I didn't count on 15 channels of fundmentalist programming and phony faith healers with hair helmets taking us back to the dark ages. That's what we get for paying public school teachers like fry cooks and dropping grade standards so scientific illiterates can pass high school.

The question should be: "Why do SOME Christians object to ALL rock music, and why do almost ALL Christians object to SOME rock music?" :-)
The answer to the first question: those "SOME" Christians are often older people. These people grew up in the time when there was nothing but nonChristian music and hymns were the only Christian music. Then when somebody (people like Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Petra, Amy Grant) came up with the idea that rock music can have good lyrics (brilliant idea) :) but the people didn't trust Christian rock, because it was new. So they stuck with their hymns and some country and gospel music.
This attitude about music, they taught to their kids (and probably caused some rebellious teenagers). Nowadays, however, it's hard to find people under 30 who don't like Christian rock, or at least don't mind when other people listen to it. Unless that person went to a strict Christian college run by old folk that still distrust Christian music.

Another reason that those old folk give (besides distrust) to Christian rock is this: that rock beat is used in African tribes to worship satan and his devils and to bring up spirits. My reply to that: if we started using hymn tunes to worship devils, would they ban hymns too??? :) lol One thing that I've noticed however, is that a lot of old people's views are changing about Christian rock. For example, about 5 years ago, my pastor had a sermon against rock music. Nowadays, he still listens to mostly gospel, but he doesn't get upset if someone else listens to rock. It's called being open, logical (actually having good reasons to dislike rock), and biblical (using the Bible to determine our standards, instead of tradition which is usually outdated)

Now, the answer to the second question: all Christians object to just about any bad rock music. Note the word BAD. For instance, just becuase a band is labelled "Christian" doesn't mean they are a good band. And just bc a band is labelled "secular" doesn't mean that they are bad. For instance, I like the Beach Boys, and there are some Christian bands that I dislike.

Jesus does love everyone. There are alot of Great Rock songs out there by the way. I'm a Christian, and I love rock music. I find your comments offensive by the way about "church music." You were being very ignorant.

And another little tidbit of information: 'Catholics are Christians.'

the reason why christians feel this way about rock music is because if you look at most rock bands or rock groups, alot of them claim that they are possessed by the devil or satan, if you study rock bands or groups, a lot of them have admited to be possessed by demons, satan himself or the devil, that is why we feel that way. Jesus does love everyone, but music, whether it is rock or not, if it gives a satanic message, it is evil, not of God. Church music isn't to blame for child molesters, those people who molest children are sick people, they have nothing to do with God at all.

My music teacher said music affects the emotions and must agree with it's words. So Christian Rock wouldn't work because supposably the music contradicts it. I guess people think it will turn people into rebels. I say that isn't really a reason to reject Rock music. My belief is that Christians should be a peculiar people for they (biblically speaking) citizens of Heaven and have divine peaceful music. Modesty is always nice.

I know what you mean. I went to a private Christian school when I was little, and my first grade teacher told me that all rock musicians had made a deal with the devil to get their recording contracts. She said that people who listen to rock n' roll will go to Hell. For a long time, I thought I was bad because I liked rock music. Once I grew up a little, I realized that that was a ridiculous idea.

Worldly music used to be an idol in my life. It is just one of the idols Jesus didn't want in my life. Jesus loved me, but He dealt with that idol by heart pain. I thought at the time it was the devil taking my music away from me. Lately, I found out it had been Jesus at that time (aprox. 15 years ago). Jesus still gets my attention by my heart. When I feel something, I need to pay attention to Him. He usually wants to direct me to do something.

So now, when I hear Christian rock, I like it or don't like it. Depending on the Spirit in me. When I hear wordly / destructive rock music & it just goes against my spirit and I have to put up my guard and try to just leave the area.

Jesus does love everyone. But some of the rock music out there destroys the things He loves.

A lot of them think the same about rap music- church goer or non church goer- molesters, rapists , cereal killers, all types of evil, comes in all shapes, sizes, colors, religions and beliefs. To classify a certain type of person or music to be evil is simply ignorant.

hey, I love upbeat music. There are so many christian rock bands that are out there that are totally awesome. But personally I don't like the heavy rock with all that screaming cussing everywhere. I mean just listen to it, it sounds HORRIBLE! I wouldn't even call it music, but horrible noise. How about you?

the actual percentage of priest who have molested a child is much lower that is publicized (as far as I have read on the matter...then again, one molested child is to many)...but aside from that: I'm a Christian and am not "weird" about Rock music. I love it actually.
