Do you think the Harry Potter books are evil?

If so, what do you think makes them evil? Is it just because they deal with witchcraft?

My two cents is that the books are, obveously, not evil. Children learn good lessons from them about loyalty and friendship (plus any book that gets kids to actually read these days is a good thing) and I can't see how anyone could see "evil" in these books if they actually bothered to read them.

Oddly enough, being told how "evil" they are by other Christians is what led me to pick the books up in the first place...
And now, I am a dedicated fan. I own all of the books, as well as the movies, I have a sorting hat, a Gryffindor wallet, and my own wand, and I am eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Of course, the books are pure fantasy.
But then, so are Tim LaHeye's "Left Behind" books.
Of the two, I think Mr. LaHeye has caused much more confusion in the minds of Christian kids than Ms. Rowling.......

Harry Potter books aren't evil. Or I suppose if you think they are, then they are just as evil as any other fiction book out there. Dealing with witchcraft isn't evil really, it just has a bad stigma attached to it, which might slowly be breaking down. Go ahead and research witchcraft today and you will see. But the Harry Potter books do have lots of good lessons that anyone can learn from.

No, no more evil than Lord of the Rings; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; or that one kid's show The Fairly OddParents. They all use magic. Heck, so does a stage magician. The only thing "evil" about these is if we start to have more faith in them, than in God.

Or, how about this: Is ice cream evil? After all, it's unhealthy to have too much. That works, too, doesn't it.

They are works of fiction, so no I don't think they are evil. The same people who they are evil thought the teletubbies were gay and a bad influence, same with spongebob, The Da Vinci Code was taken to heart by them rather then seen as a work of fiction. They are the ones who would have been out burning books that are now classics. To me it seems like they have trouble distinguishing reality from fiction.

If you see it as evil, then it is evil to you.
If you see it as entertainment then it is entertainment.
As you see it, so it is.

It is a kin to anything that is not of faith is a sin.
The saying is rather deep, if you think about it long enough you begin to see the depth of it.

Your last sentence is interesting.
If you have not read the Bible how can you intelligently talk about it.
When you make statements about that which you do not know, you make yourself out to be an imbecile.

They are fictional books. No one's claiming to do "witchcraft" they learned from Harry Potter, Mrs. Rowling isn't claiming they're real. It's fiction. So no, they aren't evil.

no, they're not evil. The characters deal with their problems in a flawed but ultimately human fashion. The real evil is the bigotry thrown around by certain groups in this country on anything that makes them feel threatened.

I had a look at the link you provided and thought, "How small minded can people be?!" It's a children's fantasy. Plain and simple. Are we now supposed to ban or burn The Wizard of Oz because it had not one witch but three?! And an all powerful wizard to boot?!

People are in such small and suffocating boxes. Worse, they try and drag the rest of us into those boxes by warning us that we will all burn in hell. Remember this. Hitler burned books too.

They are no more evil than fairy tales and Mother Goose! It gives kids and adults a great chance to use their imaginations and, in the case of children, develop a love of reading.
