It sounds like your new furniture is a bigger priority than a kitten. It'd probably be best for you to wait awhile before getting a pet.

I have to cats one male and one female and they also bite each other but they are only playing! If your male cat or female kitten begins hissing at one another then they may be fighting and you should break them apart immediately. If you are having your cats share a food bowl you may want to consider feeding them in separate dishes or at different times. Your cat may be a little jealous but just show him you still care for him, but I think he is just playing and the female kitten is defending herself so I think you are fine. I hope this helped :D

In my opinion, female cats are usually more standoffish and independent, while the males are friendlier and like to be held and petted. It would depend on what you are looking for in a cat. Also, it is less expensive to have a male cat fixed.
There is a chance that a kitten, or even a full grown cat will cause some damage to your furniture, but you can get "covers" for your cat's claws at places like "Petco". I've also found that a squirt bottle full of water is an excellent way to train cats.

I have 15 cats at the moment. No I am NOT a FREAK. LOL Ok Maybe I am a little.
Anywho...

Female cats get pregnant. EASILY!! You may not let them out and they will find a way.
Male cats scratch and mark their territory.

I would get a female cat and get it fixed.

If it's a purely indoor cat, get its front paws declawed to save the furniture. If it will be outdoors at all this is not a nice thing to do. It leaves the cat with no defenses. Get scratching posts. Notice the plural. Show the kitten where they are when they are getting the scratching motions going.

If you are attached to your new furniture, however, get a fish. Dogs and cats are bad on furniture. It's the love that makes it worthwhile, life is more important than that couch anyway. :)

Have fun with your new pet!

Hmmm, well there are ups and downs with both. Males usually like to "mark" thier territory by peeing and clawing furniture. Females get pregnant and go into heat, like other females. So its really up to you. Most kittens will play and like to claw things especially furniture.

I would get a female cat. The males like marking their territory. If the cat doesn't need to defend itself in any way then you could have the claws removed.

I would get a female cat because they tend to be more loving and yes they will ruin your furniture if you don't have a scraching post

Male cats spray a scent to attract females and they will do this anywhere ! I would go with a female cat. You will have to train it to use a cat post instead of your furniture but sometimes thats difficult. Good Luck !

I'd suggest female. You can't get them fixed right away, and have to wait until they show signs that their in heat, I believe, and when a male goes into heat he sprays everywhere. And smelly cat piss is not a nice thing. Females just meow really weird, its kind of entertaining.
