I am an atheist. Not going to say I'm proud of it. Nothing to do with pride. I submit to you that we have complained about the intolerant religious groups for years. Oh, yes there were attempts to deny certain freedoms. Personal freedoms. I got that. But, are we so much better then them now? How many laws restrict the practice of religion? How many laws passed violate the First Amendment? A little self reflection is in order I think. Do we want to become what we have fought against? Is not the whole point to allow people to do as they wish, think as they wish, and yes, pray as they wish. Who are we, the atheists to tell them that. Just as they have no right to force us to believe in God? And please don't bring up historical issues. I am talking about the reality today.

I agree completely. I find the far left to be an even more annoying faction than the right. There is no reason why kids should not be allowed to pray in school.

I'm a Christian, but the LAST thing I want is for religion to be taught in school. I don't want some Islamic, Mormon, Scientologist, or Wikkan teacher pressing their believes on my child. And in return I agree that Christian teachers shouldn't influence kids with their beliefs. I don't want judges, cops, or bureaucrats to use their positions to advance their religion either.

I notice that you don't bother to give examples of laws that restrict the practice of religion or violate the 1st amendment. I can't think of any offhand. (again - I'm a Christian) If you are talking about not allowing the 10 commandments to be posted in 10 foot block letters in front of a government building - that's just common sense. If a Scientologist was in charge would you want them posting their core beliefs where everyone has to look at them?

If kids want to pray in school, no one is stopping them. They can bow their heads anytime and say a prayer. If kids want to say grace before gobbling their graham crackers and milk - more power to them.

Anyway, I don't see the religious persecution and repression that you mention...

THANK YOU from a Christian, for a very tolerant and respectful attitude. I try to maintain a tolerant and respectful attitude to all that have beliefs different from mine, and I don't try to convert every non-believer I meet. I just get so very frustrated at the questions and comments that are mocking and hateful.....I know to those that do not believe in God, they aren't considered blasphemous, how can you blaspheme something you don't believe in? But to those of us that do believe, it is like nails on a chalkboard or worse.......but I digress, I really just meant to give you a sincere thank you & thumbs up!
I wish you peace and tolerance!

ok, i am an atheist and i AM proud of it. very few laws restrict the practice of religion, and i have no problems with people praying whereever and whenever they want. it's just when people say EVERYBODY has to pray to the SAME god, i get upset. it's a load of crap the christian fundamentalist that bush panders to all the time want to run the entire country through a meat grinder so everyone comes out the same. everybody has a right to pray to whomever they wish, but i cannot tolerate people telling me who to worship. therefore, when people try to shove their religion down my throat, i believe i have a right to get on their @$$ about i believe that their dogma is a piece. and that is the reality of it.

I totally agree with you. Though i sometimes am a ***** to christians on here i do not think that we are better than them and vice versa. We should really all just mind our buisiness. The only reason we fued is because we don't believe in something they do and they believe in something we don't. In other matters we are all people living on one earth.
