Well there needs to be some sort of limitation. Although I agree with you kids are going to do it anyways. I think 21 is just an obsurd age to choose....why should you be able to fight and kill men for your country, smoke cancer sticks, buy pornography, etc....but you can't kick back with a beer.

In countries all over the world kids are exposed to responsible drinking of wine at dinner and have much less of a problem with alcohol when they are older.

This would be the best solution I could come up with for this problem. You are legal to drink once you recieve your high school diploma. If you don't recieve your diploma you must wait until you turn 21. This seems fair and motivating....I mean we can't have kids out at bars when they are 18 and they have school the next day.....but with this idea teens would be much more motivated to stay in school.

Our society doesn't condone it because more lives tend to be ended early with the combination of immaturity and drinking. The logic behind it is...the maturer a person is the better decisions they will make (supposedly)like by not driving drunk or walking around outside where someone could easily take you or run you over with a car. It is all for your personal safety and the safety of others. Quick story...my aunt and 3 cousins ages 2,4 and 7yrs old were coming to visit me from San Antonio and at about 2:30 am a drunk teenage driver ran the red light and ended up killing my baby cousins and my really awesome aunt, the drunk driver is now a quadraplegic. This true story is for your to think about what you are doing and the damage it could 'possibly' cause others. Right now the 2 year old would have been 5 years old and WOULD have been starting kindergarten this school year! I miss them all so much!

The fact that kids will obtain and abuse alcohol doesn't have anything to do with the adult's in their life having a responsibility for understanding that they are too young to be considered 'ready'. For example, by having the age be 21 in California, it means that any adult selling or buying it for people under 21 will GO TO JAIL. The fact that kids can find some idiot who will put them in danger's way by giving it to them doesn't make it right to lower the age. Here's another example. Let's say that some low-life parent leaves her small children at home alone over and over, and the children never burn the house down or get into any trouble. Do we then say that the age for children to be alone at home should be lowered because people will do it anyways? NO, because we know from life experience that they are TOO YOUNG, and that by loosening the reins for ALL small children to be alone will cause DEATH. It's the same for young kids and drinking....you may be able to handle it fine, but life experience has taught most mature adults that if the reins are loosened, and if kids can drink at a younger age, more of them will DIE because of it. It would be criminal to ignore our knowledge just because you can sneak around us and do it anyways. There are 'some' law-abiding people (yep, even kids) who will pay attention, AND, if the ones who don't die sneaking around us, we've done all we can to prevent it. Any more questions?

By the way, don't think we haven't ALL thought just the same as you at your age...we have. We were WRONG.

Kids are going to drink whether or not it is legal. I think that is part of the appeal of it. However, they have legal drinking ages for a reason, younger people tend to be less responsible while drinking. As in they tend to drink and drive. Police are starting to crack down on underage drinkers. As someone who did drink while I was underage, I understand the peer pressure and I was fortunate enough that I was never caught or hurt someone while I was drinking. Now that I am older I understand why they have these laws. And they do make sense.
