From the array of answers it seems that 'Broadway Shows' are only musicals. Not true. Fluff can be popular and the fluffier the better, but there are shows on Broadway that have depth and stimulate not only the senses, but the emotions and the intellect as well. For example 'Art' and now playing, 'the History Boys' Off Broadway is not as loaded with musicals, though that is where I saw 'Little Shop of Horrors' before it became big time.

South Pacific Oklahoma Brigadoon My Fair Lady Sound of Music Camelot The King and I West Side Story and finally Peter Pan (the one with Mary Martin/Sandy Dennis).
None of them resorts to vulgarity or caves in to cynical negativity, unlike so much other stuff created since then.

Phantom of the Opera because I love the music. I saw it when it went to L.A. years and years ago. Michael Crawford performed at that one. Absolutely wonderful.
Sweeney Todd because I love the performance by George Hearn. He also is a wonderful actor. He's so versatile. He made Sweeney come "alive" for me.

Lion King, by far!
Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze
It means no worries for the rest of your days
It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!
Hakuna Matata?
Yeah. It's our motto!
What's a motto?
Nothing. What's a-motto with you?
Those two words will solve all your problems
That's right. Take Pumbaa here
Why, when he was a young warthog...
When I was a young wart hog
Very nice
Thanks
He found his aroma lacked a certain appeal
He could clear the savannah after every meal
I'm a sensitive soul though I seem thick-skinned
And it hurt that my friends never stood downwind
And oh, the shame He was ashamed
Thought of changin' my nameWhat's in a name?
And I got downheartedHow did ya feel?
Everytime that I...
Hey! Pumbaa! Not in front of the kids!
Oh. Sorry
Hakuna Matata! What a wonderful phrase
Hakuna Matata! Ain't no passing craze
It means no worries for the rest of your days
It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna matata!
Hakuna Matata! Hakuna--
It means no worries for the rest of your days
It's our problem-free philosophy
Hakuna Matata!
(Repeats)
I say "Hakuna"
I say "Matata"
