Could be fleas or allergies. A dog that has bad allergies can have a reaction to just a couple fleas or maybe mosquitos. Doesn't mean he's infested. If it gets bad then you'll have to take him to the vet for antibiotics etc.

When a pet loses more hair than normal like when it is shedding a winter coat it may be a sign of unbalanced nutrition. One thing to do is give your pet vitamins (FIRST ASK A VETERINARIAN ABOUT THE TYPE OF VITAMIN) and check for fleas. Search for pet food that has vitamins, read the package before purchasing. Once a year take your pet to the Vet. and have him checked out, there may be other health issues only the Vet can detect. Also when giving your pet a bath use pet safe soap, ask the vet what type to use or you can ask the pet store people they are very helpful in answering questions. Best of luck to you and your pet.

Your dog probably has skin allergies like mine. My vet recommended this treatment: bath your dog three days in a row with Allergroom shampoo and right after the bath mix 1/4 of Healing Tree Tea Cleanz with 20 oz. of water, apply all over dog and allow to air dry. Then use as needed. Be careful not to get any in eyes. You can also use triple antibiotic ointment on the spots where there is no fur to help it heal. Hope this is helpful.

It could be food allergies, but most likely allergies in general. You should talk with a vet to get some suggestions. Oatmeal shampoo is great at relieving itching skin.

It may be dry skin. I have different types of spaniels and they are prone to dry skin & itching. They bathe in oatmeal (not the edible kind) Sometimes I put Goldbond on the red spots, they itch the most.

It depends on the breed, there are some that are prone to allergies. I would take your dog to the vet...I have had similar experience in the past with dogs...once it was fleas, once it was allergies, and one time it was mange...ewww. So, I hope this helps, but I would recommend meeting with a vet if you can afford it.

It sounds like an allergy. When asking questions about pets in the future, it's important to include:

Breed
Age
Losing its hair? Shedding or losing hair in clumps?
Any redness from the itching?

Give Yahoo members as much info as possible to get an educated answer. THANKS

This could also be a symptom of mange. Demodectic or Sarcoptic (red mange). It is caused by mites burrowing under the skin and yes (!) humans can catch it.

Get your dog to a vet.

I would check for fleas and give a flea bath. If not fleas, dry skin, oatmeal type bath for dry skin and consult your Vet. Mix Vit. E on food.

Your dog may have mange. Take him to the vet ASAP. and whenever you touch him you need to wash your hands afterward because humans can get it too.
