Does it make you a good person?

I ask because I don't believe in any god. But for the sake of argument, lets say I die, and some God judges me and sees that I tried to always be a good person just because I believed that its what all people should do, would I be praised for it or punished for not believing? And which would be fair?

We are each judged according to the motivations of our heart. inside each one of us is an awareness of what is wrong and what is right, if we uphold the law by doing right then there is no fear of punishment. The problem is that no one can earn their way into heaven, we have no authority to claim a stake in paradise because we 'deserve' it. That privelage is the Lord's to give as He sees fit, after all it's His paradise. Who would you let into your paradise, remember if you let in everyone it is no longer paradise but earth part 2

My husband and that i have both been homeless or with a house yet too undesirable to purchase a lot food (regardless of foodstamps) and we went to the food banks for 'donated food' ... maximum OF IT became not sturdy food ... people supply 'old' cans they ought to throw away, damaged (smashed) pasta, blended dried beans that favor different quantities of soaking and cooking time ... even vegetables they don't prefer to devour because they're wilted and dried out. after I supply to a foodbank (which we do oftentimes) i visit the keep and purchase NEW fundamentals ... bins of pasta (the great they have, too), NEW cans of food, sparkling flour, sparkling vegetables, canned meat and canned juices, infant food in all varieties ... then I take it and drop it off with a 'i'm hoping this helps' and a huge smile ... if I loaf round, I tell the persons who we once were the position they're, and we've money now, so we are only 'paying back' what we were given ... and persons delay their heads and imagine that they are basically 'down for awhile' rather of being 'down always' ... that's not selfish to feed someone who needs food ... an old individual, a worker, a mom, a father, a baby ... people need to head to mattress FEELING finished AND understanding they're going to GET finished the subsequent day, WEEK, MONTH, year. Donate sturdy food (regardless of the reality that if it means you ought to devour slightly a lot less for an afternoon or 2 a month) and the international will be a more effective constructive position for each person!

It all depends on if you believe in a god, and if so, in what kind of god you believe. Personally, I believe that being a good person is its own reward. If there is a deity, I assume s/he would be pleased with the way I live my life. If there isn't, I'm pleased - so it doesn't matter. I wouldn't want to have a god who punished people for what they believe in - I think actions are so much more important than beliefs.

IF YOU DO GOOD THINGS EXPECTING TO BE REWARDED AND AVOID DOING BAD THINGS OUT OF FEAR OF PUNISHMENT MAYBE DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN IDEAL PERSON BUT ATLEAST IT acts as a stimulus inside human minds to stop doing bad things and encourage doing good things thus this volatile world of ours remains in a stable condition...otherwise if this concept would not be present everyone would do whatever it would please them without ever thinking if its in interest of others or is harming others...
this concept actually proves one more thing...that we humans may be intelligent but we are not perferct and if such a thinking is not present in our minds people may well cause havoc on this earth...so atleast its stopping this from happening....

Even if you did 'good deeds' all your life w/o accepting Jesus, God would see you as flesh(giving yourself the merit) and to Him the flesh has sin. Yes, it is fair esp. for those who hear the gospel and choose. As for those who never were witnessed to perhaps your theory is right, only God knows. Also since I have a choise I wouldn't want to enter hell, the Bible says never to fear---only fear with reverence God who can send you to life or death. Also, looking back all the partying & romping around I've done accomplished nothing except the Holy Ghost was with me(a backslider at the time) and lead me out of bondage(so to speak).

If you did all "good things" to only be rewarded by GOD, that is what will be judged. If you repent and do good things for people you will be judged according to that too but all in all in the end it is for GOD to judge and decide not us.

Personally i think it is selfish to do good only so that you get a reward for your good deeds, but it would be the same if you loved god only so that "it" will grant you everlasting life or let you live in some great place or something. I do believe in Karma though and that comes down to the intention of why you do something. You cannot fake it, it comes from your heart.

If you do "good" things for reward, it's egotistical and you are truly only doing them for yourself. Doing the right thing because it's needed to be done is the correct frame of mind. Those that just do good things for reward have to reincarnate.

I try to live an ethcial life. If there is a God who will judge me after death, I expect she will be ethcial too, and judge me appropriately.

In the meantime, I don't worry about it, because as far as I can tell, if this God exists, she has given us an amazing ability to learn about the natural universe, but no means to learn about her directly. From this I conclude that she would rather we spend our time more productively.

According to Christianity, my friend, you may as well kidnap children, torture and rape them and then kill them. If you "believe" in Jesus when you get your last chance to do so, you will be in there with all the other "sinners" who did the absolute best and right thing: Believe.
That's right. No evil action means anything at all. It's what goes on in the confines of your fleeting thoughts and also the thoughts and opinions of each of the individual billions of people that really counts to the all knowing all powerful creator.--- Sure he's petty, But who cares? He's God and if you don't like it, you're going to burn for eternity mister!
