The WAY OF THE WARRIOR teaches that when we are children,
words can hurt us. But when we become Men and Women, we
know that a word cannot hurt you.
I welcome your thoughtful, or unintelligent responses. As they will
help me to be ready with an answer for a question, as we are
advised to do.

It sounds like an Eldrich book you are reading. It is true, especially with boys, that a fathers word has major influence on how he grows up and sees himself. I tried an experiment with my son. When I got home from work one day I told him how proud I was of him and that he was a real smart kid. Well immediately he runs and tells everyone what I said of him. Too many fathers do not affirm their sons and they grow up not knowing what it means to be a man.

Words hurt no matter what age you are.
for it is written.

Jam 3:3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

Jam 3:4 Behold also the ships, which though [they be] so great, and [are] driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

Jam 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

Jam 3:6 And the tongue [is] a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

Jam 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

Jam 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; [it is] an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Words can and do hurt us if we let them. Let's try a test: you are stupid for posting a non-religious question in the religion category. I don't like to call others stupid but you say you are not hurt by words, so I think in this case it is okay. Agreed?

I know a word that hurts anybody: "Goodbye."

Ever heard of the term "verbal abuse?"

As a warrior, I hope your weapon is love because that conquers all...
