If you call up every computer technician in town, at every computer repair shop in town, you will find that not a single one of them uses AOL. They DO get a lot of business from AOL however, because it is responsible for more computer repairs than just about anything except a virus, malware, or adware / spyware.
In the old days - AOL ALSO used to overwrite the operating system files in Windows 95. That led to a lot of system crashes. Not that that's important anymore - just a little bit of computer trivia.
In the first place, it is just about impossible to delete it from Windows.
It will also make multiple copies of itself, every time you reinstall it.
In other words? Problems with most normal programs can be solved by deleting that program, and then reinstalling it. That works because the program might have had a corrupted file, but you didn't know where it was - so you just "nuked" everything and started over again from scratch.
And if you just reload it? Most programs will overwrite their own files.
That doesn't work with AOL. I know of one person who had at least 100 copies of AOL on his hard drive, which had to be manually deleted in DOS. You probably don't even know what that is - but it's an operating system that isn't even used anymore - and yet it's still attached to Windows.
It used to stand for Disk Operating System, and is what us old timers had before Windows even existed. It's an anachronism - a dinosaur - but sometimes this dinosaur can do things that are impossible to do in Windows. That's probably why it still exists.
You don't need to go there however.
If you want to get rid of it entirely, your best bet is to save all of the files and software you want on a CD. Then gather together all of your device drivers, and anything that might be pertinent to operating your computer, such as the system disk that Windows XP came on.
When you have all of that together . . .
Format drive C: then reload your operating system, reload your device drivers, then reload any files or programs you want to keep on your computer.
Then NEVER NEVER EVER AGAIN use AOL for ANYTHING.
I heard that the CD's which AOL comes on can be melted and turned into ash trays; which is about the extent of their usefulness, in my opinion. But since I quit smoking, I don't even want them for that. I just throw them away, when I get them in my mail.
Hope this helps.

Yep, AOL is a dirty program and stays in your registry so when you try and install a new internet service, it does funny things and then people run back to AOL because it always worked.

There's a great little free program called "RegCleaner."
RegCleaner
http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categories/LFWV/RegCleaner.html
It's called RegCleaner and it shows you a list of all the programs. If you see anything that has to do with the program you mentioned you can safely delete it.
Good Luck
