my kids like NickJr. and Nickelodeon magazine. i also like the national geographic series. i'm sure if you research you're child's interests, you'll find something along their lines of liking. my daughter also likes wildlife magazines, and Dog magazines. it's just a personal preference thing. there is everything from Boy's life to Time for kids... you just have to look.

Sports Illustrated or Car and Driver for fun.
Time or Newsweek so they know what's going on in the world.
At 12, they are old enough to start with written for adult type magazines.
No on any 'teen' mags. They are pure poison to your household.
