* In a beautiful setting such as near water, pretty garden, near a castle would be great! haha
* At your place..make her a candle lit dinner you cooked yourself, play romantic music in the background.
*Think of an activity she enjoys and somehow tie it into the proposal. Also think of her favourite things.
Whatever you do please don't ask her while she is naked or you're in bed or pop the question in a restaurant which is so over done and unimaginative it's not funny.
The main thing is as long as you put some thought into it..she is going to love it. Good luck. :)

Your question should really be...In which ways should I not propose?
Absolutely let me suggest not doing it on anybodies birthday, holidays, or in front of too many people that you both know. Doing it on any events like that could just be too embarrassing or tacky!
Make sure it's a personal and intimate moment only between the two of you.
Here's a great idea for ya, if she has ever wanted to go horseback riding take her to a place where they rent out horses and while your helping her on or off the horse you could get on your knee and ask. Or maybe you could take her to an event or place she has been wanting to go to for a while, but nothing too fancy or out of the ordinary or she will figure it out and ruin the surprise!
If your wanting to be really romantic you could try writing her a poem or buy a love greeting card that you either read to her or let her find it laying somewhere to read for herself, with you nearby of coarse. The ending line could ask the question or you could finish the end with the question yourself verbally!
Is she super girlie? If so you could tell her you love her and give her a teddy bear wearing the ring around it's neck on a ribbon or something of that variety. She would cherish the bear forever! This would work well with a live puppy or bunny too....be creative and make it personal to her likes.
You could be eating her favorite candy out of a bag and ask if she wants some, of coarse if it's her favorite she will say yes. Then you could pretend to drop some and get down on your knee to "retrieve" the dropped candy and hold up the ring and propose. That would be sweet indeed!
Make her breakfast in bed some morning when she doesn't have to rush off in the morning for anything and make her heart shaped pancakes or toast with the ring placed on top and ask if she would let you bring her breakfast in bed for the rest of her life? I guarantee she will have a great day!
If she likes the outdoors take her to a nice park for a hike or walk during the sunset and pick a single wild flower and place the ring around it and tell her she's more beautiful than the sunset and ask her then.
Cook dinner at home for her but nothing too fancy (don't want to give away the surprise) put the ring in an empty butter dish, in her napkin or something you know she will use, she will be shocked! You could also do this even if she cooked the dinner!
Sit in a dark room or one with very little light and ask for her to come turn on the light in the room. Wear a nice outfit and be kneeling down with flowers in one hand and the ring in the other when she turns on the light!
Oh I could go on all day.... Just remember to make it romantic and nice but nothing too over the top unless of coarse she is an extremist!

go on the london eye,just think how romantic it would be looking over the sparkly lights of london at night,a bottle of champagne,nd when you are at the top get down on knee and propose,she says yes.....kiss cuddle ,cry kisses and lots of them,all the way down and then why not celebrate your engagement in a really nice restaurant in london like the ivy or somewhere else and then a night in a hotel.
Ok so a bit expensive but one that you both will never forget

Does she live with you? If so, if she is currently reading a book, you could insert a peice of paper into a few pages ahead of her bookmark that asks the big question. This would only be good if you are around her when she is reading...
Put the ring in her jewlry box and let her find it!
Surprise candlight dinner ready when she gets home from work and you all dressed up.
Rent a small billboard space that she passes by every day asdn ask her on that.
BIllboard space is expensive, so what getting 5 posterboards and putting one of them in each of the 5 yards past her house as she drives to work. So it says: Will. You. Marry. Me. Her Name.? How fun!!!
or you coudl do what my husband did: I was getting out of the shower when he got home from work. Hair in a towel, putting on lotion. he gave me a bouquet of pink tulips and then we were sitting in the living room and he was crouching by the couch pretending to pet the dog and he was soooooo nervous it was a dead give away!!! He just kept saying "I love you." I love you more than anything. I love you so much." Then he finally worked up the nerve adn busted out the ring and asked!!

If you don't know her well enough to know what she would consider "romantic" then perhaps you are not ready to propose marriage. Trust me, if she learns that you proposed based on some idea you got on Yahoo, you will be in trouble.

whatever you do, don't spend lots of money (unless you're rich) on the atmosphere like expensive restaurants. save some money for the future, the wedding, the mortgage etc...
proposing on a beach is a great idea, how about making a heart-shaped pattern on the beach? doesn't necessarily have to be candles....

One of my boyfriend's friends prepared a picnic (cooked everything himself) with champagne and took his girlfriend up to his room where there were candles and the picnic! Then got down on one knee! So simple but undeniably romantic :)

Think of something she really likes, and do it that way. If she really wants to go to a particular restaurant, then do it there. Go to her favorite beach if that's what she's into.
Whatever you do, put some effort into making it special for her. What's most important to her is that you cared enough to make it special.

Have a romantic dinner waiting on her when she comes over to see you some night. have a bottle of wine and some candles going with some soft music. and after dinner take her over to the couch and sit down.but instead of you sitting down you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.best of luck
