Go the humane society and volunteer some time. You get to hang out with a bunch of cool dogs.

You can go to the human society and help play with the dogs, some places even have dog days, where you can take the dogs for the day. Call around your local area and find out. Or find someone who fosters dogs until they find good homes, maybe you can walk the dogs for that person.

I wasn't allowed to have one when I was a kid. I started my own dog-walking service at age 11 (and made a good bit of money) and then when I was 18 volunteered at an animal shelter.
