Can someone please tell them that no one reads their posts?

I am posting in the Religion and Spirituality forum, because this is the main one that I use.

Kathryn,

The "thumbs down" button under an answer will cause the answer to disappear for you.

The more of those these people see, the more they know their message is not being read, just ignored.

It might help.

Kathryn B, I have unfortunately observed cut n' paste morons being voted best answer by asking morons and community voting morons. As long as this loop exists, the behavior will perpetuate.

The frustration of seeing an original and well-reasoned answer being trumped by a plagiarized blurb is disturbing and all-too-frequent. Not only are their posts read, their posts succeed.

How about the notorious dream analyst who posts about 10 generic sites as an "answer"? I went to the sites and the vast majority were complete crap. And yet, he perpetuates; because it takes no effort or time, and a certain percentage in the short-bus crowd can and do reward his con:

Good luck on this crusade. I, for one, support your efforts.

Probably there is no way to stop people from wanting to contribute. Some people may need encouragement that they have worthwhile ideas, and do not need to simply repeat via "cut and paste" One radio talk show host has instituted the idea of saying "Ditto" to indicate agreement with statements and philosophies previously stated.
People differ in their creative and cognitive ability. One way to reduce the "cut and paste" responses is to tailor the original question either by complexity of language or selection of posting sites to winnow out the less creative, less thoughtful responders. To put it more crudely, don't post your question on the Men's room wall,

I often cut and paste my previous answers if they are relevant to the question. However, I do agree that c & P is overdone in many cases. Pages of crap to reply to a question which is obviously not from the mind of the answerer.

Cut and paste

This page is about computer text editing. For rheological properties of pastes such as toothpaste or putty, see Paste (rheology).

Windows keys for cut and pasting: Control + x (cut), Control + c (copy), Control + v (paste)In human-computer interaction, cut and paste or copy and paste is a user interface paradigm for transferring text, data, files or objects from a source to a destination. Most ubiquitous is the ability to cut and paste sections of plain text. This paradigm is closely associated with graphical user interfaces that use pointing devices.

The term cut and paste derives from the traditional practice in manuscript editing in which paragraphs were literally cut from a page with scissors and physically pasted onto another page. This was standard practice as late as the 1960s. Editing scissors with blades long enough to cut an 8-1/2"-wide page were available at stationery stores. The advent of photocopiers made the practice easier and more flexible.

The cut-and-paste paradigm was widely popularized by Apple in the Lisa (1981) and Macintosh (1984) operating systems and applications. It was mapped to a key combination consisting of a special control key held down while typing the letters X (for cut), C (for copy), and V (for paste). These key combinations were later adopted by Microsoft in Windows. Common User Access (in Windows and OS/2) also uses combinations of the Insert, Del, Shift and Control keys. Some environments allow cutting and pasting with a computer mouse (by drag and drop, for example).

There may be people here who like the cut and paste posts. Maybe you should be more tolerant.

Paste always reminds me of brushing my teeth.

Strangling the life out of them is one way to stop them. But practically, if no one responded to them it ought to slow them down. Maybe...
