Are these merely flaws in His Intelligent Design? But why would God's Design have flaws to begin with?
I'm confused. And since I'm looking for opinions (obviously), please present yours as cogently and persuasively as you can. Insults and rants will be ignored. Thank you.

Poor Southpaw. I've been lucky enough to escape back trouble; but both of my sisters have suffered from it since their college days, so I sympathize.

Cindarella920200, I must disagree. How could it be paradise if we couldn't do productive work? How could it be paradise if we knew nothing of sex? I don't know what sort of creatures Adam and Eve may have been, but I'm convinced that they could not have been human. Paradise, as described, is not for humans.
And do you seriously expect me to believe that my sisters' back trouble is the fault of our great-great-many-times-great grandmother? -- No sale!

Because we evolved to be what we are today. There are no gods. If you look at how people and other animals are put together, it's obvious that it was through a gradual process. Most functions in the body make use of organs that used to be for other functions. This adaptability is why we were so successful at surviving, but it also caused much inefficiency, too.
For example, standing upright made us better adapted to going across open land than our other primate relatives. However, because our bodies made use of a spine that was adapted to being on all fours, we get backaches. Perhaps in the far future, our species will favor people with strong backs and future children will have spines of a different shape better suited for walking. More likely, it will be one better suited for sitting and staring at computers.

God does not want us to be ill but to be helthy and happy. It is only due to our own lifestyle that we have gotten sickness and pains. Back trouble is caused by too much laziness for most, again the lifestyle we choose, not that God chooses. Appendicitis can be caused by something blocking the appendix, like a small bone, etc. Again the lifestyle is what is to blame, not God or His design. If we would follow God's plan we would have very little if any sickness or disease and would not have had to have a Saviour either as there would not have been sin in the first place. The healthiest people in the world are Seventh Day Adventists and they live on average 11 years longer than the general public. Why, because they are mostly vegetarian and live a lifestyle that is more like God planned it to be. If they were all vegetarian, they would probably have a higher rate of longer life and better health. I have known many that were in their 80's and looked no more than 60 at most and never been to a doctor in their life. So it is not God that made us faulty, it is our own doing that we get all the things we do as we do not live according to what He says is the best.

Good question. You've basically posed the Problem of Evil. Many
great minds in history have been engaged by it. So the
scholarly answer is: have a look at the Wikipedia entry and
the many sources there.
Some modern sages pose the question: How am I responsible
for the war? How am I contributing to it? This may also
get you some traction.
But if you don't want to rest there, you'll have to find the answer
within yourself. This will probably not be easy. Know the
gravity of the question you're facing. If you believe in God,
ask Him/Her/It for help. If you don't, cling to the truth as
tightly as you can.
Be ready for the answers to make no logical sense at all.
What you think of as your mind can't take you deep enough
to get to the answers. But it can point.

It was not flawed Design. If you look back to Genesis, before Adam and Eve sinned, everything was paradise. Once they sinned, many things changed. The grounds was harder to cultivate because of the thorns, but also physically it was going to be much harder. Genesis 3 is the chapter that answers your questions. To put it short, it was the consequence of their sin.
I am not really sure how to repost so I will just add to this one. To answer your question, if you read what I originally wrote, I never said they were uproductive. Before the fall, when they were still in the garden, work wasn't toilsome, however after sin entered the world it became toilsome. Even still, after being kicked out of the garden, their work was still productive it was just harder to do.
Also, who says they knew nothing about sex? And what does sex have to do with paradise? And who says paradise is not reserved for humans?
And as far as not believing your sister's back pain is not the fault of ancestors, you have the right to do that if you choose. I am saying that the decline of the world started with sin and has escalated since.
If Adam and Eve had not sinned, and produced children through out lineages up to today, and we still were in the Garden with God, we would have the perfect bodies with out pain.
I have aches and pains too, but I know what day that God is going to give me a new body that can't be destroyed. I look forward to it.
You may not like or agree with the answer that I gave, but I know I was very clear in what I stated.

The reality is that we are living creatures, just like anything else in this world. We have an incomprehesible machine called a body...it is prone to have faults, like anything else. Just keep all that in mind when you consider God making us...some bodies are more viable then others. You have to ask yourself if you think God would do this or is it simply the nature of biology. I'm not going to give you my thoughts on the answer, but consider what you know about how often this does happen...disease, miscarriage, mental and physical retardation. Then think of an all powerful God creating these things...what do you think?

God is not to blame for the problems it is selfish human nature. Adam and Eve rebelled against God's perfect world. They thought it would be better doing it their way. God did not intend it this way, he has to wait out mankind's rebelliousness until such time as he can intervene without being accused of interfering with mans free will.
That is what happened in the story of Job. Satan accused God of favoring Job, giving him unfair protection so in the name of fairness God had to "allow" bad things to happen to good people. But then that gives everyone a chance to see what a world or universe ruled by Satan would be like. Hitlers, Idi Amins, Saddam Husseins. Get the picture?

Could be in part so that those who don't believe in God can witness the way that someone of faith deals with hard times. I can't believe that God would want anyone to suffer but "to everything there is..." And I am sorry about your back Southpaw. Hope you find a way to fix it.

I find it difficult to understand as well. However, we must note that there is some really fantastic underlying complexities about existence. This is evidence of a much greater intelligence behind the design. Perhaps it is one of the challenges to we as humans to figure this out while we still can.

It is not GOD who wishes these "bad things" upon us but...suffering will show GOD our true faith and prayer will help get through the tough times. It is not GOD who does bad things. Satan can take over in many areas in our lives and if we have FAITH in GOD no matter what the circumstances, we LIVE eternally with him and God is the only one who is perfect in design.

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Where sickness is, there is sin & /or the devil.
Jesus said He came so that we could have life & have it more abundantly.
God wants us to seek Him. When we suffer from our own sins or others sins or environmental sins, we seek God for help. Jesus Christ shed His own blood for the remission of our sins. When confessing Him LORD of one's life He heals us spiritually first. There is spiritual birth & renewing in the Spiritual outpourings. Then physically as we claim God's healing promises & receive God's healing. Then mentally as we renew our minds in the Word of God. (Though God does heal before one is born again or renew minds with His Truth before one is born again. Depending on prayers of others.)
God has a purpose & plan that will be fulfilled. But we suffer because of our own sins, other's sins, or the devil who tempts, lies or tricks to cause people to sin.
During the 1000 year reign of Christ, Satan is in the dark abyss. People don't get sick or die. Because, Satan is not tempting them to sin. So, Satan has a plays a huge chunk in our sicknesses & death.
