It is nothing more than a copout answer that most religious people use as a way to explain the unexplainable rather than taking the time and effort to study why and how something happens. You're last statement >>""If we say that God did it, there is no reason or opportunity to learn how the world really works. If we had stayed with God as the cause of all events, our modern culture would have been impossible. We would have no real science, engineering, or medicine. We would still be living in the Dark Ages""<<< This is so true..
People need to give up religion and learn to think for themselfs

you're absolutely right, theres no solid proof that god did anything. but, scientifically, the absence of proof doesnt prove that god doesnt exist either. theres no way of testing if god DIDNT do something.
and at the end of the day, whether you believe god made the universe, or if it was the big bang (and why did stuff just explode all of a sudden? what caused that? and if we find out what caused it, where did that stuff come from?) it really makes no difference. if ppl want to believe in something, i say let them. as long as they dont try to force it on anyone, which is something both sides of the coin constantly do to each other.
after reading my own answer, i feel i need to add a little. just because i believe in god doesnt mean i agree that world is 6000 years old, and that everything in the bible is true. because we can historically point out a lot of the flaws that are ingrained in the bible. but, i do feel its possible that all life did come from some higher life form that we cant understand, and that the bible (as well as almost all other ancient religious texts) are a good guide to living life.

And that is the very reason that many scientist do not believe in GOD for they have to have scientific evidence. God is so much more than scientific evidence and beyond what we can ever comprehend. God is outside of this world and if the scientist would stop and think why they have not found many answers yet as to how our world and us exist maybe they can see that GOD may have had something to do with it but the scientist being human mortals in which GOD is not a human mortal, the humans must search--- and...God has given mortal humans the knowledge and wisdom to do just that. Perhaps maybe the scientists and engineers will have the answers one day if they only search beyond the mortal human world--
God has given each and everyone of us a gift and for some that is exploring and searching in the scientific field for answers---look how much more we have found in technology and science and in doing just that... IT IS all in Gods plan-- We have Doctors to help and heal., we have space explorations, we have astronomists, we have so many I could go on . GOD helped us not to be in the dark ages-- GOD gave us that gift.

An unfortunate genetic compilation of rampant cynicism in the personage of Mojo Risin'? God did it.
My good friend, the late Jim Morrison, is calling from the alleged other side...and he wants his anagram back.
You don't want discussion...you want to browbeat with your powerful mind. It is a gift from God and should not be abused in such a manner. If you really are interested in reading a well-reasoned counter-claim to your rant, may I suggest D. James Kennedy's "Why I Believe"?

You are making the erroneous assumption that religion and science are mutially exclusive. I would argue that God is the "why" things are, whereas science tells us the "how".
God said in Genesis 1 "let there be light". He did not tell us how that light came about. Astrophysics has come a long way towards answering that question, but many mysteries remain.
God told us to "subdue the land" but he left t to us to develop agriculture, engineering, botany, and husbadry. It was a monk after all that started the whole science of genetics.
I completely diagree with your notion that it was people who did not believe in God, who ignored religion, that dragged us out of the Dark Ages. People of all walks of life and all religious persuasions have contributed to the expaning base of knowledge we currently enjoy.
Finally, I would like to add that yes, there are close minded people in religion. There are also closed minded people outside of it. I think your biggest problem with religion, though you did not specify so I may be wrong, is the possibilty of the supernatural. That for which science cannot provide an answer. That is not to say we should stop looking for one, but there are going to be certain things we just simply will never know about our universe.
Because God said so.

Mojo buddy! You're starting to see it. God IS the answer. I see the underlying tones that you dressed up some for your previous atheist friends. Awesome of you to weave in to all those words how man is incapable of understanding or comprehending even a small portion of what our omnipotent God knows and can do. It's okay to come out of that closet Mojo. Let them know you have seen the Light.

I absolutely agree. That's also the same reason that it's futile to even attempt to argue the existence of god, because there's always an answer for it.
Darwin, for example, was laughed out of the water for his suggestion in the initial copy of Origin of Species that whales are descendants of bear-like creatures. Although he wasn't far off, it was merely speculation, and so, not accepted as scientifically viable.
However, god exists because he made trees and trees exist, seems to be a perfectly good explanation for proof of god.
As I see it, if you want to be religious, that's fine as I enjoyed believing in Santa Claus when I was younger, so I can get that, but denying science and hard facts is the same as turning your back on reality.

The biggest reason is that most people still see God as man did 2000 years ago and are too afraid to seek truths! I believe God did all of this and his method was totally up to him! How do we know God didnt use evolution as his method? Man only thinks he can conceive of Gods power! Gods power is uncomprehendable!

Origins science is never testable, we can't go back in time and watch God create, we can't go back and watch life arise from nonlife, origins science always has assumptions, I assume the Bible is true, an evolutionist assumes that there is no God and that life arose on its own, which has yet to be proven possible.
If you think belief in God would hinder science, you're wrong. Louis Pasteur (pasteurization is named after him), Gregor Mendel (father of genetics), Isaac Newton (physics), these great scientists were all creationists. Believing the Bible doesn't hinder science, especially since God ordered us to subdue the Earth, which implies a study of its processes, science. Oh, and interestingly, it was Christianity that brought us OUT of the Dark Ages.
