tell him you can be friends, but be very light about it. Then start spending a lot more time with him when you can "like friends do". Make sure you both have fun(since you went out with him, you should know what he likes). Then ask serious questions about him and his girlfriend and you and him. Make sure the questions you ask change the way he think about your relationship. :-)

If he likes you and has a girlfriend? He is not that great of guy. You can do better. Guys come a dime a dozen. You will get over him.

try to get over him and get on with your life. there is a reason he is your ex boyfriend, and there is a reason he got over you and moved on and already has another girlfriend, trust that and try someone new.
