sound is the displacement of air or a shock wave similar to a ripple on water air is just a thinner version of water the faster the displacement the louder the sound so if in fact a tree does fall it will displace air.sound is the way our ears transmit information to the brain kind of a language so the tree would displace air but without ears transmitting sound [language] to the brain, there would be no sound but there would be air displacement

well seems how no one is there the question couldn't possibly be answered because if no one is there then its impossible to know. My guess is it still makes a sound because why does the tree care if we are listening or not?
