Salam (Peace)!
Any animal is halal that you slaughter with the name of Allah (God), except dogs, pigs, cats and some other. Not all of the animals are halal. The most popular halal animals are cows, calfs, goats, sheeps, deer, chicken, camel, ducks, pigeons, etc.
The way you make the animal halal is by
1) have your intentions that you are sacrificing them for the sake of Allah.
2) you say Bismillah which means in the Name of Allah.
3) and then you say a small dua (supplication/prayer).
4) and then you cut the animals' halfway with a sharp knife (and it is proven that the sharp knife is less painful and the animal does not feel much pain) and then you let all the blood flow out.
5) and then of course you cut it, clean it and skin it, etc.
Benefits of making the animal halal:
1) the animal is pure and clean.
2) and they're fresh and disease/germs-free.
That's the method and to answer about kittens. Muslims do not eat kittens or cats. In fact, they keep them as pets.
I hope you will understand inshallah (God Willing).
Take care!
