Its pronounced Mur-Si-Deez, not Mur-Say-Deez, as all Americans say it. Not only is it incorrect, its really annoying on the ears, the way they seem to pretentiously stress the 'Say'. So What explains their inability to pronounce simple words?

It really depends on where in the US the people pronounce Mercedes as Mur-Say-Deez. I'm a military Brat, so I've lived pretty much every where. But in the mid west and the nothern west they pronounce it the 'correct' way.

I wish Mercedes was the only word we mispronounced!
I believe it is because this country is a melting pot. We are not English, German, Greek, French, Spanish, Polish, Russian, Italian, African, Swedish, etc ...ect..but a mix of all these and the accents that came with the folk to this country many years ago.
I can remember my grandfather pronouncing words and then hearing my father (who was born here in the USA say the words with a bit of the same mispronunciations but a little closer to the correct English he was taught in school.
I hear it everywhere, I do it myself. Sometimes we know it is wrong once we hear it leave our lips but it's out...and on the ears of people who probably are thinking... what did he/she say? Living in Massachusetts's doesn't help...
As for he reason Bush was elected president....is nothing to do with my vote..so let the ones who votes that guy in explain it away....

probably because our language come from a lot of other languages and we dont have a solid syllabery. meaning certain combinations of sounds in most languages are always going to sound the same no matter what unless there is in accent mark given whereas ours has different sounds depending on the useage. Thanks for clarifying this, I can definately say that I actually learned something on Yaho Answers today.

To travish- I drive a Hyundai and I have been forever trtying to get people to pronounce it as "Hunday" where as most people here in Ohio, including those at the dealerships, pronounce it as Hon dhu eye, as if the company is part of the Honda corporation. Funny, right? Also, Hyundai made ships before they made cars, just FYI

Does it really matter how it is said? I mean, obviously you know what "Mur-Say-Deez" means, so it's not like when you hear it, you have no clue what it means.

Most people pronounce Hyundai, the car, like "Hun-day" including people who aren't American.

Actually the Japanese pronounciation is "Hee-oon-dah-ee"

So what's your complaint? The way someone talks doesn't make them a moron.

Being ignorant and accusing a group of people to have an inability to pronounce a certain word just because they say it differently does make someone a moron.

Mur-Say-Deez sounds better (for the car--the Spanish women's name is different).

Not sure what the connection is to electing Bush, but I know Americans say both Lincoln and Ford correctly--but Ford wasn't elected.

I go days at a time without worrying about how people pronounce Mercedes. Mer-like Merry, ced like zed, es like ess. I can't explain the Bushies, but they're the ones with the Mercedes.

So why can't Germans pronounce "this" and "we" correctly? They're always saying stupid stuff like "dis" and "vee". How stupid is that? It really grates on the ears. So what explains their inability to pronounce simple words? Is that why they can't win a war?

Tell it to the "Mur-Si-Deez" manufacturer, their commercials pronounce it the other way!

well, i think that regional accents come in to play here. Americans say a lot of words differently than the English, and Australians. I think your a little to sensitive, and have some lingering issue regarding accents.
