GOD does.if you remove god out of the picture than it is just your opinion or mine.the standard for right and wrong is god.you have total KAOS if you don't.just look at society and you will get the picture.people don't want god in the picture because it inter-fears with the wrong (or sin)in there life.there is absolute right and wrong reguardless of what the world says.everyone has there own truth ,right and wrong, until somebody cutts them off on the road and they yell YOU CAN'T DO THAT ITS WRONG.say who (if no god)it's just your opinion.my opinion is it's ok to cutt you off.you see the problem.

Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -ties
1 a : a moral discourse, statement, or lesson b : a literary or other imaginative work teaching a moral lesson
2 a : a doctrine or system of moral conduct b plural : particular moral principles or rules of conduct
3 : conformity to ideals of right human conduct
4 : moral conduct : VIRTUE

That's the definition. But everyone seems to come up with their own rules about what is and what isn't "right". And generally with any set of rules there are gray areas.

For example: killing is wrong.
What if this person is about to kill you? What if you're in a war? What if they're suffering in unbearable uncurable pain and are too weak to kill themselves? What if you've already killed 100 people, is 1 more going to make you any more unmoral than you already are?

But the "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" concept is very flawed. What if you enjoy getting the crap kicked out of you, it doesn't mean it's ok to do to others.

It's primarily based on the principle of not causing harm to others.
Our laws are a complicated version of the golden rule, which is the best rule to live by.

You place yourself in the other person's shoes... if you don't want to be stolen from, then don't steal from others... if you don't want to be cheated on, then don't cheat on your partner ... if you don't want to be lied to, then don't lie to others.

Basically, we are only deserving of the treatment we give to others. Most of us want to be treated fairly and with kindness and respect. We must live the way we want to be treated. Like the saying goes, if we each clean our own doorstep, the whole world will be clean.

It's not really about "deciding" what's right and what's wrong. We ALL know deep within our hearts, what is right or wrong. Even children learn quickly that it doesn't feel good inside to be hurt by another person. When we feel the pain of being hurt, our empathy towards others keeps us from causing harm as we mature.

"And it harm none, do what thou will"

That is one of the religious creeds I live by. The "harm none" includes you, your friends & neighbors, animals and the planet. "Harm" meaning physically, mentally, spiritually.

That's how I define for myself what is morally acceptable, what is the "right thing to do." As for anyone else, I would not wish to answer for them - or say that my way is the only way they should follow (occaisionally someone does have a better idea than I do!!).

I guess if something is wrong, then it does harm to the people around you and also yourself. If something is right, then you're helping you and other people.

I guess it just depends upon whatever has been ingrained into our subconcious mind during our formative years by parents or circumstances
