I am a LDS church member (Mormon) and I really don't get it. I've been a member all my life, and I see nothing wrong with their teachings. Sure, it's different. Sure, we believe in the Book of Mormon, written by a Latter-Day Prophet named Joseph Smith, but people act like we're a disease. I suppose it would fit into the 'fear what you don't know' category there, but really; I get along with so many people. I'm not mean, judgemental, hypocritcal or any of those lables 'Mormons' seem to get.

I also dislike the fact that people seem so quick to believe in that 'all about mormons' episode of South Park or any other resource they can get their hands on, but not ask a real, devoted, mormon. Come on. It's South Park; a cartoon made to make people laugh.

So please, explain to me what is so wrong about my faith. I'd really like to know why I'm so insane and stupid for believing in it. Thank you.

I'd also like to add that I am not part of the polygamist mormons. We don't believe they are actually part of our religion, but simply a branch with different beliefs. Poligamy is wrong. Period.

Sadly enough, there's no one real explanation. You said it yourself, it falls into the "people fear what they don't know category". Religion is a touchy subject, and people are not always so open minded about the beliefs and practices of certain religions. Its not just mormons that have been looked down upon for their belief, its happened to jews, jehovah's witnesses, muslims, catholics, etc. I don't hate mormons, or any other religious group. But youll always encounter people who do.

Hi there ,,, I never met a Mormon I'd didn't like. It would seem the means justifies the end. They put a lot of emphasis on the importance of family.

People have a problem with the Book of Mormon ... any religion less than 2000 years old is considered a cult. If you're not a Mormon the Book of Mormon is pretty strange. It what make a great SCI FI movie.

It' s also one of the more racist religions ... with the blacks sitting on the fence ... not being able to decide ... and all that.

I grew up with my Dad being a mormon preacher. In all honesty, I wil ltell you this much. I left mormonism after I found out that Joseph Smith was a mystic. It's public knowledge, it's even on wikipedia. So guess what, I read up on what being a mystic really meant and my world has greatly and magnifecently became so much more awesome. To know god and not just believe is beyond linguistical comparison. It isn't evil, it is an awakening to what heaven really is and how to really get there and be there even now. To understand imagination and creation is an important truth.
I'm not saying wikipedia is my sole source of possible truth but where that initial information and other influences leads me, is where I go.
There were many other factors.

Recently I was at Navuoo, IL and visited the LDS visitor's center and after the historical film I asked the LDS Representative what was it about the Mormons that incited such hatred of them by the local people. The only thing she could come up with was they feared the political power of the growing community. At that time, the mid 1840s, Nauvoo was the largest city in Illinois and for whatever reason the Mormon community was feared and loathed. The practice of polygamy seemed unchristian and sinful to the locals much as brothels offend Christians today.

I dont hate mormons, in fact I had a great neighbor who was one and she taught me many things about the mormon religion. What I have learned is mormons are devoted to GOD and are truly genuine but...there are many things that I dont agree with like the "book of mormon" for the only book I believe in by God is the Bible and the things we hear about the polygamists. Having more than one wife as "some" have done, not saying all. Just things I have not heard of through our Bible and saw and heard of teachings in the mormon church that is man-made, Thanks for asking however..:)

I have not read the book of Mormon; (I am presently reading (speed reading) the Book of Abraham. From that limited viewpoint, the more I read of the Bible, the more I tend to believe the Mormon church is closer to the 'real' church than many folks in this country give it credit for.
I suspect that part of the perception of the Mormon church is related to man being a god (Gen. 3) and the additions and deletions from it conform to man's limited understanding.
Keep studying the word of God.

It's an infringement on the current pimp game.

How are Jan & Paul, Jimmy Swaggert, and Creflo Dollar gonna maintain their lifestyle if people wanna give to the Mormons?

Plus, Americans always need someone to look down on.

Today, its us Muslims. Your turn is coming...

You are a brave soul, and I admire that. I don't think people hate Mormons. Its just a different gospel than what was given to the original Apostles from Jesus Christ. Very Different.

In a nutshell-Weird teachings, and late arrival.

Where were the people of God prior to Joseph Smith being born?

According to him, they were all apostate, and God needed him
(Joseph) to restore truth to the earth.

Only God (the true Holy Spirit) can open your eyes to this, as he did mine:

John 16:13 (KJV)
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

I pray that He will, for Jesus' sake!
