The same reason some people shop at Nordstroms and some shop at Wal-Mart. Status and service. A pricey restaurant generally has an attractive staff, beautiful surroundings and patrons who although may not necessarily be attractive have tried their hardest to look their best. Obviously, this ain't the case at Denny's. Service is also much better at the pricier restaurants. If it isn't top notch, it won't be pricey for long. It will be out of business.

Because they can! $150 for 2 is nothing. There are places where it is much more expensive. I went to a restaurant with a group of people, and with very few drinks, it turned out to be about $200 per person. I know of restaurants that are much more expensive than that. Some might be called "worth it" while others "certainly not."

Eating out is not solely about the food or its taste.
People go to more expensive restaurants for more than just the menu, although the food is usually more creatively prepared by a chef rather than a cook. I also think people enjoy a higher level of service and ambiance in a more expensive restaurant, resulting in a memorable dining experience.
Consider yourself fortunate to be able to experience fine dining!

Many have the best wines, the best cuts of fish...in fact the best of everything, and they obviously offer fresh food and menu items that some place like McDonald's would never have. Not all places serve things as simple as you would find at Appleby's.

i also have to agree with these other guys ...if you don't enjoy or appreiceiate the finer things in life then don't go ... anyone can go have lunch or dinner at applebees or o'charleys any day of the week but, if you are going to worry about how much something cost or put down what the server do for you or how the food taste at a fine establishment...then, keep your *** at home!

the restaraunts have great atmostphere all aroun including cleanlines(bathrooms) and how organized it is. Also, the food may be a better quality as in using fresh fruit and vegetables other than processed or canned food or food that had to be delivered from a cheap/expensive place.
I hope this info helps answer your question. :-)

If you cannot tell the difference between the food at chain restaurants and fine dining, you should eat at the chains. Good food and a lovely experience are wasted on you.

They're paying for the place and ambience....that's it. It's very rarely that the food is better than anyplace else. Just like clothing, they're paying for the name. Happy Dining!
