yes they do these things do happen . My suggestion make a copy of your Insurance certificate and send it to IRDA. In the meanwhile write to Agrani to find out where have they moved their office to?make sure you write the letter to their regd. office and their head office and not to some regional one. put it through a courier asking for a signature. ( so that they do not say we did not get your letter story ) Send 2 more reminders in the same way and , if they do not reply then maybe someone did scam you for sure. But till you do not get any confirmations I would suggest that you wait and then pursue the matter in the PIL court
Agrani has a Office in Delhi why don't you pay a visit to them directly so that you will know where you stand the address is :-
9th Floor, Kanchenjunga Building, 18, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi-110001
It is a big company they won't just run away so find out what really went wrong most probably the agent just forgot to inform all the people.
Good luck ..

This is a fradulant scheme, I have heard about it some months ago... There are a lot of unscrupulous business actors out there.....

To answer your question, no.. there is none. If one does not take insurance with a reputable company then you are on your own. It is so easy to fall prey to a scam artist like this in India.

If you have a bond issued by them send a Xerox copy of it to IRDA for further clarification and do mention in your mail regarding their disappearance from the said address and what can be done now.
