You are probably going at the G from "underneath" because it is high and you are thinking about going "up" to it. Try thinking about soaring "over" it while you are still on the E. Prepare for it while singing the E and just continue the tone to the G. Practice these 3 notes on the EEE vowel which is usually the easiest, and feel how it feels to soar to that G, and then replicate that feeling with the vowels in the words. Also, try lifting the cheekbones on a smile as you go higher, and really make sure you are grounded in your diaphragm at the beginning of these three notes, so you can run them together on the same stable flow of air.

Being around a smoker shouldn't affect you that much, but it might. As far as hitting that note, try doing some vocal warm-ups about 10 minutes before you're supposed to sing. When you're doing this, try to hit notes that you know you can't do. If your voice cracks, so what, go even higher. Then go down lower, then higher, then low again, then high again. This will tighten up your vocal cords and make you able to hit more notes.
Also, remember to sing from your diaphragm

I would just sing for awhile. Hum and sing scales, sing songs you already know, things like that. Hopefully, your voice should warm up and then you'll be able to hit it.
I can't see being around a smoker for a week taking away a note that you usually have.
I'm hoping for you! Good luck.

Remember to rest your voice today. Drink tea and honey. Or something warm. NO milk. I'm sure you know all this.
Then warm up before your perfomance. Think high to hit the G from the top of the note.

I was a choirboy for a year when I was 9 and the teacher used to tell us to gargle with a salt water solution to keep your voice in good condition. Can anyone corroborate or refute it?
Warm honey lemon also works miracles for your throat.
Good luck! I'm sure you'll be great. =)

properly, you have been instructed sufficient approximately warming up, as for making a song from the diaphram...try this tip, its how I discovered some 27 years in the past. Lie on your back with an exceedingly heavy e book slightly below your rib cage (the part of your diaphram) once you inhale, make the e book upward thrust. administration the decreasing of the e book once you exhale. it somewhat is an extremely unusual feeling in the commencing up and, regrettably, i do no longer think of you will get it mastered yet this weekend, yet thats the way it starts. in case you have the possibility to... notice the way a new child breathes, their abdomen rises and falls no longer their chest and shoulders. we are all born respiration precise then we get lazy and turn to respiration from our lungs somewhat than the diaphram. it particularly is a lots extra undemanding way yet additionally much less effecient.
