If religion wants respect it needs to respect others and stop trying too pass laws to restrict other peoples freedom. eg: abortion laws. As it seems the religious are not able to do this why then do they expect to be respected and get upset when they are not? as can be seen in this question

I respect your disrespect for the disrespectful religions. Can you respect that?

Because religion has no room in it for goodness, decency, respect, light, love, honesty and compassion. It is too busy whipping it's followers up into a frenzy to go convert/kill the outsider or trying to turn every country into a theocracy where disobedience is punished by torture and death for person and family.

and yes I am a little bitter towards religion...it is the root cause for at least 90% of the evil in the world.

allanlax11123:: if you think abortion restricts right of baby I would like to know how...an embryo is not a baby and if you DO take the definition that far then why is it OK for a woman to ovulate since that is a potential life and where does the definition stop? Why is it OK to kill cancer cells since they are just as alive as an embryo? Is a child's or an embryo's freedom more important than yours or mine? If we have no right to interfere in God's plan then why is it OK to keep people on life-support forever when they should die according to God? *I don't meant to attack* since I have no set idea about abortion but how do you address all the things you put into play when you draw the line? I am curious and like I said still thinking about the whole thing

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The thing that I am feeling is that most religious people "find" religion due to some thing in their own life they need to be "saved" for, but they really aren't getting it. They think it gives them a pass to point fingers and pass judgement on others and that is not what it should be about. We should all respect each other for own individual decisons, and if we don't agree with an action then just don't participate in that action but don't put down others for doing it. I have also found that a lot of "religious' people are the most narrow minded, gossipy and just down right "ugly acting' people there are. . .hence hiding behind their religion because no matter what they do they always go back to "I have Jesus in my life, and I"ll be all right". . .

Thank you for your question. It is a good one.

Since the proclamations of all religions can not be scientifically proven one way or another I will tell you what I think.

All religions are made by human kind in an effort to comfort human beings about the mystery and unanswered questions of death.

As I am sure you are aware almost all souls who claim to be a follower of one religion or another do so from the emotional platform of faith rather than from a basis of scientific logic!

Please know I am not disparaging anyone. Nor do I wish to insult anyone.

All human kinds religions are based on "myth!' I do not make this statement out of ingorance. Just do a Google on "religious myth" to explore for yourself/

For instance, Hinduism taught about a "Trinity" of Deities for over 1000 years before the Christians.

Just so you know I am not religious. But I am also not atheist.

Have fun but be safe.

Faith is a very fragile thing...it does not hold up to scrutiny. When someone of faith is argued with, they get frustrated and angry. Sad, but true. The best policy is to just ignore them and their questions...for no one is going to convert anyone here to anything. Most of these posts are no more than statements of belief, some are foolish, others misguided at best. What is the point of arguing with these people? None! Let them be happy in their ignorance. IT is only when their ignorance turns to stupidity and bigotry that I let them have it. And even then, I have become immune to their rantings..they appear to be mad men on a mission, but missions don't go very far on a keyboard, do they?

I am a christian. I don't get upset by some of the idiotic questions and obvious bating questions posted. Life IS too short. It is only debate (though muslims don't like dbating Islam) in the ethernet. Unlike under Islam , I believe in complete freedom of speech. It is apity some of the muslims on here cannot follow my example.

If you are pro-abortion then you, in fact, are restricting that baby's freedom to live. Abortion laws are trying to protect the freedom of that baby. The freedom to have a baby or not was exercised when the woman decided to have sex except in the case of rape. In this case, however, the baby still has the right to life.

Why wouldn't we want to pass laws regarding abortion? it has to do with morality, and morality affects everyone. If I take your view, that I shouldn't impose my beliefs on you, then someone could steal something and argue, "why are you imposing your beliefs that theft is wrong on me? I think if I want something I'll take it, how dare you violate my beliefs!" See how your argument fails? there is an absolute morality that God gave us, and we need to follow it, without it, there's no possibility for justice bc no one can be held accountable. You may say theft is different bc it hurts someone, but as I said before, morality affects everyone, you can't pick and choose, you have to have absolutes.

Regarding abortion, I find it amusing that they say they're prochoice, when that child has no choice in the matter, I've never heard a case where the baby raised his or her hand to say, "go ahead, cut off my life!"

All the major religions have a "book"
All of them have a "God"
None of the "Gods" really like one another.
God didn't really write any book (if he/she had it would be better written than the ones we have).
Since you can only believe that one book is the right one, the others are the wrong ones, and anyone that believes in that is generally not worthy of being "saved".
Hence, respect is reserved for the people who agree with the right "book".

Julia, "D'oH!" is all I can say to you. You have listed anothers' question that you seemingly support, which calls for the end of theological discussion on this site, and then you go and contribute some of it yourself!
I've looked at your profile, the better to understand you. No details, just 5 questions, all hostile to Christianity, Catholicism in particular.
So we know who and what you are, but rather than express your opinion in response to others, you seem to want to rock the boat. I'm not a Christian, but I won't stand for the persecution of anyone on here, over their race, faith, beliefs or lack thereof, or sexuality. There are reporting mechanisms in place to deal with those who are only here to cause opprobrium and unrest, as you have found. Do I also have to inform you that if you should upset sincere Christians, they will forgive and pray for you? Is the irony lost on you?
You really are tilting at windmills, pointlessly.

Is there anything, anything else at all in your life you'd like to actually ask, rather than just re-state your personal rejection and dislike of Christianity? Please do so!
I wish you'd put the needle on another record. I'm very bored with this one, and suspect that I am not alone.

Peace, hope for your happiness.
All my best to you, truly. It is sad to see one so young and beautiful so cynical already.

I think most people are pretty reasonable and respectful of others, it's just the exceptions are so much more noticable.

And I believe they often post in order to upset and anger others. We're probably best off ignoring and/or reporting them
