Go to akc.org and you will see a list of breeds. Look at each one and see if you recognize it from the pictures.
I'm not sure which one you're talking about based on that brief a description. Also remember that some breeds come in several colors and the pictures might indicate a totally different color. For instance, white is not an acceptable color for a boxer, according to the breed standard. However you will see white boxers all over the place now.
If it is a small dog, could it be a Bichon Frise?

If it's the size of a Yorkie with straight hair like a Yorkie it sounds like a Maltese to me...although they don't really have "square" faces...maybe got a bad haircut at the groomers. Could be a West highland terrier, but they are quite a bit larger than the average Yorkie.

Large dog or small? The only small solid white dogs I can think of are West Highland white terriers (Westies) Bichon Frise, Toy Poodle, or Maltese. None of these however, have square faces. Well, I guess they could, if they got a really bad groomer!!!

I remember that commercial I think it was a west highland terrier. Westies are pretty good dogs as far as I know. Type them in and check out a breed site to find out if thats what you're looking for. good luck
