I have to admire police for their remarkable courtesy and restraint, but that does not mean that they have to tolerate rude people or wannabe commedians.
Handcuffs work well.
It is a good thing that I never became a cop; I would be too free with the nightstick. But yet when the cops do use their nightsticks on some cretin who does not deserve to walk the streets, some other cretin will videotape them and the media will not show the part about what the bad guy did to deserve the beating.

The question should focus on the training the police receive in the first place -- which I feel is not enough. (and there are courses in dealing with 'Difficult People' offered through many universities because it is required when entering business careers or anyplace where you interface regularly with the public).

Coming from a Military Background (and I am a retiree) -- we have the UCMJ to go by to regulate our behaviors as servicemen and servicewomen. Where is there something similar that the Police need to guide their responses to what they encounter in daily life -- and to be there to make sure they live by those guidelines? The training is certainly not as intensive as what the Military gets throughout their careers (and I mean it -- we are constantly trained and go through many levels of training for our duty) -- and that helps us deal with the situations we encounter.

so yes, I do feel that the Police Officers need to have additional looks at not only HOW they are trained, but to see what other professions out there are similar and to take the training events in the career and transition it back into continuing education for Police Officers so that so many instances of brutality can be avoided.

Well I usually just use politeness...it really makes them look like an *** in court when we get there and they start spouting off how rude I was to them, cussed them, called them rude names and then bam, the tape starts and the jury/judge hear who the rude person was...I have even had someone file a complaint against me for being rude, and she said I even propositioned her. My supervisor asked her to make a statement, and have it notarized so he could "prosecute" me. This is a serious offense...then after he had the statement in hand he played the in car video for her...she did not even know that it existed....hahaha there was charges filed against her for perjury and falsifying a govt document...
Anyway, that politeness thing is the easiest way to deal with the jerks in the job. They usually end up in jail anyway...

They grin and bare it... Then the handcuffs come out if it continues and the "rudeness" proves their stupidity... U have to take people with a "grain" of salt and allow them to be rude then you put your foot down and tell them how it is!!! They either get the picture or they don't!!!

Your question demands that you do your research Rachelle. Begin by making contact with an officer and tell him or her that they can take their badge and shove it up.....their nose. What happens next will give you good evidence toward the answer of your question.
