things will cease. But it doesn't say when. How can you justify putting a time limit on God? Shouldn't all Christians be open to speaking in tongues ? Also, Jesus never spoke in tongues so how can other Christians teach that it's required?

I agree. The SBC wanted to ban missionaries who speak in tongues. They even went so far as to try to fire the head of the NMB.

Thankfully, God worked on some hearts & this didn't come to pass. No one should try to pu a limit on God's workings or who accomplishes them.

The Book of Acts says that there will be a diversity of tongues until "that which is perfect is come". Speaking in tongues is not a manner of speaking some unknown gibberish. Speaking in tongues is merely speaking in foreign languages as the entire world does. The bible also speaks of having an interpreter. The world is full of those too. That is how the disciples were able to travel to various lands to teach the word of Jesus.

It just means that when Jesus returns, we will all speak with the same eternal and perfect spiritual language. There will not need to be anymore diversity because we will all be the same at that time. If you believe in that that is. Either way, that is what the bible says.

well, all i can say is i speak in tongues when i pray and i am not trying to do it and i don't make it up .It is just something that started happening one day when i was praying. I don't think that it is required of all Christians. I believe that it is a gift. The gift of the holy spirit strengthens your walk with Christ.

I need a Biblical reference. So many times people take a piece of scripture out of context and try to interpret it. Scripture must be taken in context, reading what comes before it and what comes after it.

True, some Christians feel that you are not saved til you show evidence by speaking in tongues. This is false, scripture taken out of context. One does not have to speak in tongues to know Christ or as evidence that they know Christ.

how often is a translator present when this occurs? if there is no one there to translate what is being said how are we to know the message? why would god give us a mesage in a language that no one undrestands? the bible says there would also be someone capable of translating what is said present. inother words unless there is another person present that can translate the message the message is not from god. in order to remove any doubt of a scam the translator would preferably be someone not associated with the speaker.

They can't. But what the bible says about tongues is that you must have a translator with you, or it's blashpemy and evil. Even if you have good intentions. But all Christians should be open to it, but many don't.

Check out this site that explains how much of it is a hoax, and how people get caught up in emotional displays in an attempt to get close to God.
