I'm on a weight gain program because I've recently been very ill and lost 40 pounds, so the doctors have me taking in 2500 calories (WHICH IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE...my goodness). Most of my calories are coming from carbs and natural sugars, some unnatural sugars because that seems easiest to me...like fruit, sorbet, fruit juice, jam etc. but i don't know if that's healthy, or if that will put on "healthy" weight for me. I DONT want to gain all the weight back in just my stomach!!! I want to gain it back all over, evenly! So I was wondering if anyone had food reccomendations that help with that...and I know that a lot of you will reccomend excercise, and i know that...it's just that right now i'm still recovering and too weak to weight train, though i do a little bit of walking during the day. Any Advice?

othinkopinko,

Your body is extremely smart and knows exactly what it needs so it can be in balance. With proper nutrition your body will lose and gain where needed. As a wellness coach, I would recommend a maintenance program. Slowly but surely you will get the results. Please let me know If you would like more info on choosing the right program for you. I'll be glad to help.

Get protein into your diet and lots of it. Protein doesn't build fat; it builds muscle tissue. Then when you get enough energy to start exercising even minimally, start weight training on light weights using lots of repetitions. You shouldn't wear yourself out. Actually, you should come away from the routine feeling envigorated, if not at first, after a week or two at least.

Carbs build fat and fat alone. They are converted to blood glucose of a different type than the glucose made from protein. They cause all kinds of other bodily changes that protein doesn't and can be very dangerous, even causing diabetes, when over consumed. This, and the muscle-building aspect of protein, is why I recommend more protein, then limited excercise to be increased as you begin to feel better.
