Some antidepressants can make you gain a small amount of weight over time (generally years). If this is a concern, tell your doctor and ask for a "weight neutral" antidepressant (i.e. one that won't effect your weight). Each person's body is different and responds in different ways. If you try something, and are uncomfortable, you can always tell your doctor you wish to switch. Remember, while they are the experts, YOU are hiring them to work for YOU. Yes, there are definitely some that have a side effect of weight gain -- in particular, Remeron is a very bad one, as well as Zyprexa (the generic version is called Olanzapine).

If weight gain is a concern for you, please don't let that stop you from taking anti-depressants if you need them. Talk to your doctor -- there are many that do not cause weight gain. I didn't have any weight gain with Paxil, Serzone, Prozac, Effexor XR.

Yes, some can. BUT not all. The one I am on actually is also helping me lose weight. I rarely want to snack and have to remember to eat!! I weigh 244 lbs so this helps alot! Talk with your doctor.

YES that is one horrid side effect...I went from 150 lbs to 211 lbs!

Sure I still have some bouts of depression but this is life.
Blind people cannot see deaf cannot hear...
MOVE OVER DISABLED PEOPLE depression is a way of life!
Just learn to deal with it and not let it over come your life.

some do.. try wellbutrin it is a mild stimulant and will prolly make u lose weight
