Yeah, that's a good question! It would have made sense, instead of this business of letting him ruin everything on Earth, with the promise that Jesus will return and make things right. Why not be proactive instead of reactive?
But then, the fanatics would have nobody to blame when they can't accept scientific truths for what they are. It's always easier for some people to believe in myths and fairy tales, with promises of golden sunsets and eternal bliss instead of facing reality.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Satan was an angel before he made a that big mistake and that is why satan is now controlling the earth and in charge of hell. In other words he got kicked out of heaven.

It doesn't take a genius to work out that without an anti-god of some sort no religion in the world could explain the horrors both natural and man made that occur disproving the existence of an all loving all forgiving Deity.

I believe its because Satan is extremely useful for God in this age, but soon Satan will wear out his usefulness then God will get rid of him. How is Satan useful? Good question.
God made two orders of being, angels and man, which He wanted them to love him out of choice because He gave them a free will. Before Lucifer became Satan, God was the only choice to make so they angels didn't exactly choose to love God, they had no other options to choose from. Satan was the very first free moral agent to choose to not to love and serve God. Out of this rebellion marked the beginning for decision making for the angels. Now the choice was do you serve God, or do you serve His rival, formerly Lucifer, now Satan. As a result a third of the angelic hosts chose to serve Lucifer forever, and the rest choose God. After the great war in Heaven when Satan and the rest of the fallen angels were cast out marked the end of the period of the angels deciding who they would serve.
The next step God created humans, and notice that not only did He NOT destroy Satan, but He evidently allowed Satan in the Garden of Eden...very interesting. I've always wondered why would He do that knowing that man could fall as a result of Satan's cunning. It became so painfully obvious that the only use God has for Satan is to use him as an agent for choice. The humans could not choose to serve and love God unless they passed the test. Simply put, God knew that if you are going to create free moral agents, they have to be tested by fire...much like gold. The angels were tested, and some didn't survive, but some did. He is now testing every human being and He is using Satan as that fire to test every human to see which ones of us will reject evil and embrace good. Because before Satan, none of the angels officially rejected evil because they had not had the opportunity.
Of course when God is ready to judge the humans for their decision for good or for evil, then Satan's usefullness would have expired and he will be judged for his own rebellion ultimately. That is what I believe.

It's the whole good and evil thing...you can't have one without the other. how could god be so good if there wasn't an emissary to be so bad. It's a way for people to justify things they can explain no other way...instead of lookig into something scientifically or rationalizing something they jump at the chance to blame it on someone or something.

god made satan. satan is part of god. an important part. satan is god's jungian shadow. to destroy his shadow would mean destroying himself. god's goal is to convince satan that god is right in how he governs the universe and his creations. our world is part of god's theoretical proof. god can not be proven wrong or right until our universe has ended.
