Depending on what you are testing for, it can take only a few hours. I have seen patients, mostly teenagers, who are brought in to the ER (emergency room) delirious and incoherent. In these situations, a toxic screen is always performed. The reason is simple, doctors need to know what drugs were taken so the right antidote can be given. The results are usually back with a hour or two at the most. The toxic screen only tests a few drugs, such as: acetametophen, alcohol, opiods, herion and BZD (e,g, Valium)
.
In a hospital, results from a drug test are usually available within 24 hours. In a doctor's office, the results will probably take a few days, maybe a week. Doctor's offices do not have their own in-house laboratory. So, they usually use an outside lab like Quest Labs.

takes a couple of days. generally they search for the "big" ones first you know? coc, weed, other narcotics. that sort of thing. doesn't reallly take all that long. sometimes they take a week, but the majority of them take about 3-4 days for processing.
