Normally, a female comes in heat at about 6-9 months average. The entire cycle may last up to three weeks. First week coming in, second week get pregnant, third week going out. Her bottom will be swollen the first week, second week the swelling goes down and the third week returning to normal. And, they normally will come in heat about every 6 months, which is average. But, not all dogs adhere to this 6 month cycle.

When she goes in heat, write it down! About 7 to 10 days she will be ready to breed. Dogs normally stay in heat for 21 to 25 days. After she goes out of heat, mark 150 days ahead. This will remind you that she will be in heat again soon, about 10 days.

Dogs do not have a menstruation cycle, it is called a HEAT CYCLE and lasts 3 weeks. If you do not want to breed her, have her spayed.
