Since, it was already in use and the other person who gave you the CD might have already registered the software (and more over if he gave you the CD he might have given it to many other people as well) and probably Microsoft recognizes that its a pirated copy.

The solution is to either buy a legal copy or download a freeware operating system that also has a good UI. These days Ubuntu is very popular and you can download it for free.

Here is the link for it:

There are also other software link open source office etc that have similar features as Microsoft office and host of other similar products that are relatively much cheaper and sometimes free.

First of all you just admitted to the entire CyberWorld that you participated and used a Pirated Copy of XP, Real Brilliant there Buddy. Next, it will expire if a valid key is not installed, and why don't you do the only legitimate thing out there as an option. BUY YOURSELF A LICENSED VERSION, if not, the piracy makes it harder for me and others, when we go to purchase the next one, we get handed the costs for your screwups...

You need to find a valid code, or BUY a legit copy of WindowsXP. There's no other way to activate it. Calling Microsoft for help with an illegal copy of XP will get you no where fast.

Buy a legal copy and you wont have this problem. What your doing right now is illegal and agaisnt microsoft EULA, you cannot burn a copy of windows xp and then use it as your own.

Only one xp activation code per computer, each one needs it own.
