I certainly don't mean to. Jesus taught a simple message of Love. Unfortunately it got dressed up in religion by those who failed to understand his message, and here we are with Christian soldiers killing people around the world, while Christians polluting the planet till it will no longer sustain life.

I am sincerely, seriously trying to figure out what went wrong. What is it in the human psyche that has to pervert a simple message of Love till it looks a lot more like Global Domination and Wreckage.

I appreciate feedback (and best answer to the one who teaches me the most on this topic).

Thanks.

Hello again Bob, I have to say, I have just sat and shook my head at some of your questions this morning, but they aren't driving me crazy. Besides, it wouldn't be much of a drive anyway-more like a short stroll. :-)
Anyway, you do have a good question about what went wrong, and it has to be a question that has been around for years. I am sure that God has looked down at us wondered the same thing. Is there a true answer to this? Even when Jesus walking the earth and was teaching the simple lesson of Love, there was hatred and violence going on. Fighting in the name of God, in the name of Love, in the name of RELIGION. So this isn't something new that has began with our generation. In my honest opinion, everyone has/does/will twist God's word and Jesus' teachings to suit their own beliefs (myself included). Maybe twist isn't the right word, but as has been said before, we all have our own interpretation of what the bible means, if I wholeheartedly believe it tells me white is black, I am going to defend that believe. Maybe not to the point of violence or oppression but there are some that will. Just because they believe that is what they are to do. The human psyche--well, it 'just ain't right!' I don't have an answer to this question, and I am sure that you won't get a "right" answer to it on here. We aren't a perfect race, the best we can offer is to follow Jesus' lesson of loving our fellow man and believing in Him and strive to do better than those before us. In a perfect world.......there wouldn't be a need for questions like these. Peace, brother.

I'm a catholic and i get confused at some situations but I heard from a talk about this once...

Jesus taught us to Love...I understand that you dont get why there is war and bombings and such...

Christians are at war because it is either they want to keep the message of God alive and not let it disappear or they're doing it for their country...

Because country government dont like talking, they take action too seriously...is it that hard to take 1 day to have a small conversation about this...

In our country, it's all about talk, no battles, no wars between countries but there are still problems...

It's either the president of the country think it's BETTER to fight that to go through freedom of speech...

everyone, i mean everyone, has at least a part of them which they think they're all that...if we spread the word of Love to our friends, it might reach to the higher classes...if we do more good things to others, they might even do the same to their friends...

dont think about the big things like war, think about the homeless who are hungry, if we help them ,the country will have higher standards in surviving reality...let's do our part in saving our country and yours!

I agree with you, that Jesus taught love. All the different denominations have got their own take on what the Bible is trying to teach us and things have gotten jumbled along the way. I feel that going to Church is a good thing, but you have to read the Bible yourself and Pray yourself and not rely totally on your Preacher, Priest, Rabbi, etc, etc. We all must work out our own Salvation with fear and trembling. The Bible is a teaching tool, read it with an open mind and sincerity and God will show us the truth. I wish I had a more profound answer for you, but as long as we continue to fight, and hate in the name of God, things will never get better, until his return to earth. Follow your heart, and love, as I will try and continue to do. God Bless!!

Religion, for good or for bad, serves many purposes for individuals and societies.

It helps us become more loving, peaceful, compassionate people. It helps us to forgive others, and receive forgiveness.

It also helps create order in society. It helps unite people.

Of course, because of the powerful role religion plays in people's lives (including mine), in can also be used to encourage people to do some of the things you mentioned, like commit violence.

So, the way I look at it is, we seek from religion what we feel we need to have peace. I connect with the loving Father and Jesus message of love; others find peace through believing God will severely punish all non-believers!!

Peace.

Many men desire power. If born poor with no inheritence, the only route to power for many has been the military, which makes bodies out of alive young men, or organized religion, which soon comes to have little to do with spirituality.

I am writing this because you taught me something in a different answer. I'm sure you've had the experience of knowing something, but until someone puts it into a clearly concise sentence, you say, "YEAH!". That's what you did for me when you gave the example of "circular logic" and Christians with their bible in a previous Q/A. I have you to thank for that! It was simple, and yet SO logical!

And in answering YOUR question, I think that I have to give you credit again. Let me just say that I am an atheist, so I am unashamedly biased. But even I am sincere when I say that I'd LIKE TO believe in God! It's just that logic won't permit it! Jesus was a very good man, and I don't think that anyone doubts his existence, because of the history of man, and because of his timeless and "simple message of love", as you put it. But some of us can argue his Divinity vs. humanity ad infinitum!

Allow me to take a chance at Christian philosophy: Christians believe in God because of the bible, and the faith involved in it. God created us. God is perfect. God created man. God loves man, even evil, imperfect man. But God sends evil man to hell, even though He loves him. And SOMETIMES God sends evil man to heaven, because he acknowledged Jesus! God didn't remember that the dinosaur had pre-dated man, so He didn't bother to include that in the Bible with His estimate of man's longevity on earth OR on the age of earth itself!

There is NO LOGIC in those statements, circular or otherwise! But since Christian man holds so strongly to the
Bible, disregarding logic, he is obviously imperfect, and imperfection begets imperfection, so man is BOUND to screw up the message of Love, and pollute "God's" planet! Let's finally face it: Religion and the Bible have NO PLACE in logic, and consequently, if Christianity is wrong, I think it's reasonable to assume that the other religions fall short as well! And you cannot prove anything that defies most logic, especially anything that is based solely on faith. Let's not blame it on God or gods any more! Let's blame it on something concrete, which is the fact that, in our attempts to find meaning in a finite world, we have created God! And in our pathetic attempts to perpetuate Him, we have denied all logic and reasoning, we have killed in His name, and we have no regard for anything else, as we have polluted the planet and left Love completely out of the equation!!

I hope I have done half as well as you did for me! Thanks for the opportunity!

Wow, deep subject. Any answer here would be very long and arduous to write. I wouldn't mind im-ing on the subject though. One simple answer to your question is the sin nature of man. The fact that Adam chose to disobey God in the first place- and he walked with Him in the cool of the day!!! Free will, confounded by deception is the answer. Im me for further.
Peace.

This isn't a thorough answer but keep in mind that there was a lot more to Jesus and what he spoke of than "a simple message of love."

people like yourself who are able to take the message without distorting it are wondering why others cannot take the the same
and do the same as you but people are not the same they dont understand the message !!RUINING THE PLANET CAUSE IT SUITS OUR CAUSE.
What went wrong who knows? dont bother searching for what went wrong but do this

live your life as you have questioned how we should live ours.

Human nature is to distroy what we don't understand or want to control and can't. You are right about the simple message and that is why people do not understand it!@
