It's a matter of pride and professionalism. If you keep your work area clean and organized, odds are pretty good that you will work in a clean, organized manner and do the job right. Besides, if you know exactly where all your tools are, you can easily tell if one is missing and get to them quickly. And would you like to be putting your body weight into a greasy wrench if it gave way?

Motorsports racing is very competitive, and anyone that rebuilds or modifies race engines will tell you to clean each part until you can eat off of it. Even a small particle of grit can lower compression and power, or a single bubble in a brake line can be the difference between winning and crashing.

The same thing can be said about a chef- would you rather eat a meal from a clean, sanitary kitchen or a greasy, smoky, stinky one?

1. Uneccesary clutter is unneeded, and can sometimes make work harder.
2. To some of the clientele, they would think that a clean shop is a better shop, assuming that if everything is in order, they'll get the best out of what they're paying for
3. I just think it's better.

its called 'Federal Regulators'... OSHA i think... but besides that, a clean shop is a safe shop... a little grease on the floor could be dangerous not only for the mechanics but for the customers as well... im sure a clean shop gets better insurance rates as well...
