They (India) have their own Muslim (Pakistan) issues. Buddhists have never been a culture for war. They have always thrived for peace on all levels of existence.
Just read your update - I'm not sure, but they are not part of this new world dominace issue. They have always followed the path of peace as it pertains to the enlightened soul within them. Generally, inner peace brings a much longer, healthier, and happier life. Who doesn't want that? Oh, the West and the Muslim Extremists.

I'm a Buddhist, and I'll tell you that the problem is that western religions are intolerant. The only priest of a western religion I've met who seemed to understand tolerance was a Rabbi who once told me that "we are all climbing the same mountain, were just taking different routes to the top, and when we all meet well realize how foolish we were". This is a wonderful attidude to have and is the same one that keeps buddhists out of trouble. Though the muslim holy book does claim that the Jewish and Christians are also "people of the book", this religion has been perverted in many countries and there are not that many people who still follow it truthfully, and those that do are constantly haunted by prejudices against them. Though I have met some christians who are tolerant of other religions most of those I know seem to have the "accept jesus or burn" attitude. These attitudes constantly cause christianity and islam to clash and for islamist governments to brutally opress the Jewish people who defend themselves, and this has resulted in the countless Israel conflicts.
Here's a quote from Buddha:
"Holding onto anger is like holding onto a hot ember and intending on throwing it at someone else. You're the one who gets burned."

One of the main factors is most of the Far Eastern religions focus more on acceptence, respect, tolerance and adaptation to life's evolution.
Eg: When Buddhism traveled to Tibet, China and Japan, the deities of the local cultures are accepted and embraced by the community. Buddhism doesn't believe in condemning the local cultural practices of other nations, but serves to adapt, respect and be understanding of them. This is because Buddhism realises that Local practices are very much valued by the people, and if the people is made to serve the religion, failure or conflict is bound to happen... because the religion exists to serve the People... without people to serve... what is the use of Buddhism? Or Christianity? or what ever -isms. What use is there if there is no one to save, or liberate?
Religion is there as a tool for Humanity to find ultimate happiness, and not Humans are there as a Religion's tool to Happiness and material profit.

I can answer this question. I'm a Buddhist, and unlike many monotheists, we are very tolerant of other religions. We believe the key to nirvana is not saying "my religion is better than yours." It's about keeping out delusions that lead to suffering, and realizing that suffering is caused by cravings and attachment. Anyone can attain enlightenment. I think the reason monotheistic religions have so many conflicts is because they are basically the same, yet they always contradict their teachings about tolerance.

Easterners view additional religions as more candles to light the darkness of human lack of understanding of their spirituality.
Abrahamic reilgions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), on the other hand, focus on being complete faith systems in violent competition with other religions for political power. The purpose of each one is to take over the earth, populate it with only their own kind, and kill off or convert and then kill off all others. The success of these religions is an anthropological phenomenon, as the conflicts generated by them have created a self-predatory, conflict-driven existence for humankind for the last 3,000 years.

Has to do with the very nature of the religions....Christians and Muslims are told everyone different is the enemy and will go to hell and to convert or kill them. Also there is a 100% obedience required..don't ask questions just do as we say and how we say it.
Buddhism is all about the individual finding the spark of God inside each person and says that each person has his/her own path to it so it is all up to personal choice..hence no "be like me or die" concept..also to reach enlightenment it is all about asking questions of everything to better understand.
Hindus believe they keep coming back to life until they erase all their flaws and work their way thru lives reaching higher lifeforms the better they do but if you do bad you go down the ladder..so it is MUCH harder to convince someone who could be erasing 3 lifetimes worth of work that is really OK to kill unbelievers

Tolerant Buddhist teachings include:
HATRED IS NOT APPEASED BY HATRED. HATRED IS APPEASED BY NON HATRED.
and
LOVING KINDNESS TO ALL
and
Sale of arms and ammunition is against Buddhist teachings
However, in the face of NON TOLERANT and AGGRESSIVE Islam and Christianity Buddhist tolerance suffers.

religions/ faiths/ beliefs are not the factors of conflicts.
there are many peaceful muslim countries & christian countries.
it is the individual's background, greed, power & ego that are destructive. After that, they metamorphosised into organised crimes & now to violence.
it is the insecure group that wants to suppress others' freedom of choices, and assume that the 'other' people/ group/ country are responsible for their plights/ miseries.
