Yesterday I went to a private school for a college fair and was semi-impressed. But then again when you pay $36K annually you can afford to get the best of ALL worlds. I attend a magnet public (again being at a magnet school we're still better off than some of our public school peers) school and feel like academically we're on the same level. Would you send your kid to private? Why? Why not?

Private!
For starters, the class sizes are smaller and discipline problems that interfere with the learning of others are minimal.

For children who have never been in school, Montessori Schools are excellent (but you must visit to make sure the standard is kept up). The transition from a non-Montessori school into one can confuse a young child, but with parent help it can be done with little trouble.

The general gist of it is children are taught skills with manipulative's in all subject areas. The children are able to self -pace when needed.

Socially, Montessori schools are typically more diverse than other schools. many East Indians own and operate high quality schools.

Care and classes range from Infants-6th grade. it is the philosophy of Maria Montessori that children will have gained the necessary skills at an accelerated level to equip them for public school by grade 7 or 8.

i think its hard to say. i went to a private school, k-8, then went to a public high school.

it seemed like most of us were ahead of our public school peers, and were doing college prep or honors level classes without any real problems.

BUT, there were a handful of other kids that were in those classes that went to public schools their whole lives, and they were doing great as well. and i know a lot of ppl that went to the same private school i did and still had a hard time in a public high school.

theres no real right or wrong answer here, and its impossible to tell how an individual is going to respond to any specific educational environment. just make sure you're allowing the child the opportunity to do all he can. if he's clearly ahead of his entire class at a public school, a more advanced classroom setting might be the way to go.

While the bottom line is what you can afford, I believe in most public school systems.

My sister has been in a magnet school since 6th grade, and she graduates high school in 2 years. Her possibilities are broadened by the specialized nature of the art classes offered. For instance she gets to participate in a strings class and dance and theater, and graphic art as well.

I was an honors public school student during my high school career, and I could have done theater or orchestra, but that's where the buck stopped. I loved my high school career because I was allowed to see "normal" people and get a more real feel for the average person's struggle with teenage life. And most of my teachers loved teaching- they certainly weren't getting paid tons to put up with us. That's why I favor a public school experience. It can be gritty but it's not pretentious.

If you can afford private schooling, my daughter loves it, but $36K is way toooo much. For 9 months that $4K/m. I pay $550 for K-8 and thereis only 180 students. It is a Montessori somerthing???

Depends. There are some excellent public schools that I wouldn't hesitate to send a child to. There are some private schools that I'd never send my child to. I'd take a look at the offerings more broadly and then make my decision.

as a parent,it's the quality of education me&my man are after for,
plus the fact that there is an active participation between our sons& their mentors..
they involve parents in monitoring the progress of the child
and high in morale and religious upbringing regardless if it's a public or private institution.

nothing is for free anymore not even education so we pay what we have to pay for so long as it's worth it.

It's for the benefit of our sons & a better future for them is what matters to us most.

I recommend private school. I've been in private school for three years and i love it. I once use to go to public school and i had a very bad experience. I just it's really up to you and your parents to see what is truely best for you.
