If the pain is from the spinal tap, caffeine is the cure. A couple cups of coffee or caffeinated soda should help quite a bit. If it is not from that and it persists, she needs to go back to the doctor. If she starts vomiting, she really should go back to the hospital and make sure there is nothing else that could be causing her headache that could be seen on imaging studies (like a CT scan or something similar).

muscle relaxers are fine and dandy, but if the migraine is a daily thing your friend should take a more 'daily' kind of drug. The two pills I know of that help migraines the most are Imitrex, and over the counter Advil liquid gels (four will kill ANY headache)
try the Advil first, because imitrex is expensive.
but keep in mind that the way it works with pills for pain is that after many daily doses you build up a kind of immunity, and you'll need to take more and more. the worst part about that is the damage done to your liver.
so for the light headaches, just use a cold compress in a dark room until the pain goes away and if it doesn't, then you can take a few pills.
good luck.

I get migraines 24/7. I know your pain. every time i get a migraine i throw up. I don't eat for days on end. And what makes it worse, is that I've had one every day. Literally. Well, eventually i went to a neurologist and he gave me a medicine called Elevil, or amitriptalene. You are supposed to take 1-5 every night and the next day it will be gone. Altho it does make you a little nauseous. That's why you take it before bed. It really works. Even if you don't have a migraine take it before bed and it acts as a preventative. Also try Zomig or Topamax. They all have about the same effectiveness.

Has she tried something perscription medicines like Immitrex or Maxalt?
She can try drinking a warm glass of water with 2 tablespoon honey and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar.
However, this is the crazy one and I only do this if I think I'm going to have to go to the ER or Urgent care to get a shot or something. I put several grains of cayenne pepper on my finger and snort some up each nostrils. It burns for a little bit but the headache is usually gone in less than a minute. I read this remedy on the internet somewhere and was so desperate one day that I tried it.

Use the new magnetic stimulator device - its VERY new so you might have a bit of difficulty getting one initially, but if used at the onset of the headache, it should be effective. And no, I don't sell them! Good luck to your friend. The device is most effective if it is used when the headache is just coming on. I don't know what they cost, but if it prevents migraine headaches its probably worth every penny.

Relax, divert her mind, avoid red wine loud noises and cheese. They precipitate attacks. Tell her to take a mild analgesic and go to sleep. Sleep causes redistribution of the cerebral blood flow whose unfavourable alteration is the cause of most of the headaches of migraine.

Cut a 1inch square from a brown paper shopping bag. Soak it in vinegar. Press it to the forehead between your eyes for ten minutes.
Actually the combination of a cool moisture and pressure on the vein in the forehead works wonders anyway.
