Bummer. Next time get a goldfish. Their bite is usually non-fatal, and you can flush them down the toilet after the authorities destroy them for biting the neighborhood children.

Sorry, I've no experience with special needs or the courts. Hopefully you or your parents can sort this out.
Best advice I can give though is to go and ask your vet to recommend a good animal behaviourist. See what they can do. If the court sees that you are serious about making sure this sort of thing does not happen again then MAYBE you'll be given another chance.
As well as this, take advice from a good lawyer.

Did he have his shots? If he did'nt I'm going to assume he's being held in quarantine for at least 3 days.
Is this the first person he's bitten?
If answers to both questions are yes in which case you'll get him back after paying a fine and the kids medical bills.
In the future you need to be more careful with him and NEVER allow him out on his own again. The next time this happens he'll have to be destroyed if he's lucky enough to be spared this time.
It's not right for a dog to lose it's life because of it's owners laziness or negligence.
I'm sorry you're learning this the hard way.But at least you're learning.

Dont get discouraged now.....calm down.
The kid probably had food smells on his hands.
They will probably fine you and u will have to get another dog and keep a close eye on it so this does not happen ever again.
They maynot put your dog to sleep if its just the first offense.
U could apologize to the parents of the child and go to the shelter and try to get your dog back. If the parents are not pressin charges , u should be able to get the dog back.
Stay calm thru it all and remember life goes on and u will too.

It is policy to remove a dog for observation once it bites someone. This happened to me once, and I got my dog back 10 days later.
My neighbor ALSO went through this recently, but they never actually TOOK her dog because when it bit it WAS on the chain.
It all depends on your local ordinances.
Eight stitches IS a pretty large bite! You may be responsible for Hospital bills.
Who actually took the dog? Call their supervisor and find out what the standard policy is, and what will happen in YOUR situation.
GOOD LUCK!!

Sorry to say that the chances are slim on getting your dog back.
The laws are very harsh in this matter.
I know from experience.
But you might have a chance if your dog is a working serves dog and with your special needs you depend on the dog to get through a normal day.
For more info and help you can go to www. delta society.org they have Lot's of info and you can down load and print a serves dog law card and that gives you a good leg to stand on.
I wish you the very best of luck.
I my self am the father of a special needs child and know the bond between special needs people and their dogs.
god bless you.

if you have special needs why dont you ask your social worker she would give you pretty sound advice and if its just your dad thats taking the dog away and not the police yes you will be able to get another dog. Why dont you think about a rabbit or hamster or a canary good luck

Depending on how he scores on his test will determine if he stays alive. Does he bite or attack when you take his food bowl away? Is he agressive with toys? Can he be pet in general? Does he attack ppl when walking on a leash? If no to any of these answers he will be put to sleep with no question. Otherwise you might get him back. You are allowed with another but if he bites...you will be under investigation

i have a one year old jack Russel called frodo they are a very excitable breed but as the same with all dogs if they don't like some thing you are trying to do or are doing what else can they do to show you that they don't like it? nothing if some one was all up in my face then i would not bite but i would probs slap or punch them.
BUT U SHOULD NEVER EVER LET YOUR DOG OUT BY ITS SELF EVER

Oh god! How horrible! It really depends if they report it to the police or not because i think it's the police that hae the power to decide what to do. If the kid's parents make a formal complaint, then you will need to see what happens. Make sure you ALWAYS accompny your dog. Apart from anything else...kids can be so cruel to animals.
