The first thing that came to my mind when you said tender is appendix. I would give him tylenol and if it doesn't improve by Monday call the doc and ask them. But (just in case it is appendix) if it gets worse take him to the E.R.

Use the B.R.A.T. diet = bananas, rice, applesauce and toast (plain) They are bland and soothing on the stomach. Just watch him and if it gets worse, or vomiting and fever begin, take him to the ER. Right before I went to the hospital with appendicitis, my stomachache started off as just uncomfortable, with diarrhea, then came the fever, the vomitting and the severe pain. Something to consider when deciding if the pain is the appendix..pain is mostly on the right side, when the pain gets real bad, it tends to hurt all over, press down on your childs right side and if the pain is worse when you release the pressure, thats indicative of appendix probs, have your child stand on tip toe and 'slam' down hard, if that sends him into excruciating pain, again, indicative of appendix problems.

Did he eat too much candy or something else with too much sugar yesterday? This is the most common cause. If that is the case, just give some Children's Immodium. If the stomach pain gets worse then you should call the doc

When a child is sick or has a bellyache with vomiting or the runs you don't want to give them anything because it will prolong the sickness inside of him. You want him to get rid of it so if he's throwing up or going to the bathroom let it run its course if you say its not severe enough for medical attention.

If he isn't sick he is probably having gas cramps. Try having him lay on his belly on a heating pad on low setting. Good luck

I heard that when you have a tummy ache or for women menstrual cramps - get a cat and have it lie on your tummy - supposedly helps.
so, off you go.. find a cat and put it on your son's belly.

Have him take a warm shower and rest in bed with a cool rag on his head...that always and still works for my kids.
