Unfortunetly you would probably be arrested, your name would make the news and every bleeding heart would crawl out from under their hiding places and collectively throw rocks at you until you were bleeding from the head and close to death just so they could rush you to the hospital. That way you won't die and they can get on with their clear conscience. Now imagine what they'd do if you shot one?

Making a citizen's arrest on a bank robber (good luck) and a citizen's arrest on an illegal for crossing the border without the proper paperwork, is exactly that: a paper crime, hardly a felony!

Why do you and so many of you confuse the level of the infractions when you discuss this; it might behoove you to think your question through a bit.

Should I make a citizen's arrest if you have expired plates? There's a user around here who calls himself ''smack.'' No wonder.

Edit: Smack, thanks for those links. Very informative.

The media would cover you as a hero for the bank robber. You would get a little parade or the key to the city.
For the illegal, the media would cover you as a racist, anti-semitic, white power klansman, and the ADL would label you a hate individual right alongside that confederate flag they have deemed hateful. You would lose your job because the company doesn't want bad press or lawsuits. Finding another job would be difficult. Your life would be temporarily over.

What if you arrested a illegal alien bank robber - then what are they going to say? Oh yeah, the same thing. It doesn't matter to the ACLU if he is a bank robber...

Come on, man, this is a non-sequitir, like apples and oranges.

I've said it here several times, your comparisons make no sense. Those of us right smack in the middle of this issue know and understand the paperwork crime at a different level; we view this for what it is with no personal agendas. It is political in nature with the media, which is what people asking questions here react to. The links provided here that speak to the real issue will show the reality as it applies to the law.

I will say it again, Congress will reach a win-win; and like it or not, many of you here will have a rude awakening concerning immigrants, march or no march.

I know you are pissed and I sure dont blame you.You would be wasting your time on the arrest. The mexican would get deported (if your lucky),go visit his family,be back in a couple days.
If you arrest the bank robber, talk to him first,he may just be faceing hard times.Besides,he aint as low down as the invader.

hey, knock yourself out with that citizen arrest stuff! if hauling people to the police station is your idea of a good time, go for it. if you want to call the police and say "there's illegals hangin' out on that corner, i'm sure of it!" you do that. it won't be the aclu attacking you, it will be the police themselves rolling their eyes and politely dismissing you as a nutcase. so, i say go for it.

and, as map points out, illegal presence in the US is a misdemeanor. will you also start doing citizen arrests of people who litter?

yars, illegally entering the country is a misdemeanor, though it's a hot button in the house and senate bills on illegal immigration. here are some sources that i think you will find trustworthy:

http://www.americanpatrol.com/REFERENCE/isacrime.html
http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/66047.htm

and a reminder that immigration reform is stalled, which means it hasn't been made a felony yet, even though the house put forward the possibility:

Just be careful when you attempt a citizens arrest. There are more things to consider than just apprehension of a criminal. check out Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizen's_arrest
